'Throne of Glass' TV Show Announced By Hulu
Winter may be coming, but new episodes of Game of Thrones are still a ways away. But thanks to a new announcement, our GOT withdrawal might not be as bad as we thought.
According to Deadline, Hulu is developing YA author Sarah J. Maas’s New York Times-bestselling Throne of Glass series into a TV show, with producer Mark Gordon (Grey’s Anatomy) and writer Kira Snyder (The 100) already attached. The show will most likely be titled Queen of Shadows, and will be based off the entire book series. The saga follows 18-year-old Caelena Sardothein as she competes in a royal contest to become the king’s assassin, then finds herself indebted to a corrupt ruler and must win back her freedom. (She also gets caught in a love triangle between the crown prince and the captain of the guard, and discovers her identity as the lost queen of Terrasen. Casual.)
The news of the TV adaptation comes on the heels of the release of Empire of Storms, the fifth book in the series. So far, it’s gotten rave reviews and Barnes and Noble sold out of special edition copies. With a massive (and obsessive) fan following already built in, Queen of Shadows seems like it could be Hulu’s own GOT. After all, there are a few similarities between the two fantasies:
1/5Caelena is a badass female protagonist, like Daenerys Targaryen and Arya Stark, and doesn’t think twice about raising her sword.
2/5There’s a brutal (yet unnamed) king in Throne of Glass, like GOT’s Joffrey.
3/5During the king’s bloodthirsty contest in Throne of Glass, one of the assassins starts mercilessly killing off his competitors, and Caelena must catch the killer before she becomes his next victim. This one’s kind of self-explanatory.
4/5Caelena learns Wyrdmarks, an ancient magical language, during the competition. There are many languages in the Seven Kingdoms, and Dany's mastery of more than a few has helped her a number of times.
5/5Choal Westfall, the Captain of the Guard who steals Caelena’s heart, is a kind-hearted fighter, like Lord Commander Jon Snow. But does he know nothing, too? Only time will tell.
