Top 10 Best Countries to Live In
Though chants of "USA! USA!" and "We're number 1!" may be common for Americans during the Olympics, or on the Fourth of July, a recent study shows the United States isn't always top of the list when talking about the best in the world.
Researchers at the Wharton School of Business developed an interactive methodology to determine the 60 best countries in the world, and the U.S. has dropped from fourth to seventh place, according to U.S. News. They surveyed 21,000 people across the world and asked them how closely they associate attributes like adventure, citizenship, cultural influence, entrepreneurship, heritage, movers, open for business, power and quality of life with any given country. The goal was to measure how perception, rather than hard data, impacts a country's socioeconomic climate.
Thomas Wright, fellow and director of the Project on International Order and Strategy at the Brookings Institution told U.S. News: "It's pretty clear that Donald Trump ran and was elected as a nationalist who would look out, as he put it, just for American interests, and who thought the U.S. was doing too much and was being exploited by the rest of the world. That has made the rest of the world very nervous."
Given that the general population influenced the study's findings, it comes as no surprise, then, that Switzerland and Canada topped the list: both have reportedly served as popular viable destinations to seek refuge in the wake of political unrest (and provide unparalleled skiing options).
