How to Create a Valentino-Inspired Manicure
Between the spring-y hues and the sweet scalloped edges, this lacquer look is perfect for the girly-girl in you. Polish pro Elizabeth Monson translated the design from the Valentino runway: "I thought the color scheme was really cool," she says. And, as always, she's got a quick trick up her sleeve for creating the look. "If you want to experiment without having to buy extra supplies, you can try using a ballpoint pen or a toothpick instead of a dotting tool."

Apply a Base Coat
"Always start your manicure this way to make polish looks last."
- 3/9
Add a Creamy Color
"Apply a shade that matches your natural nail. I’m really into the current trend of nail art that shows a little nude base or even bare nail within your design."
Monson used Essie Nail Polish in Demure Vin.

Paint on Red
"Draw a straight red line along the base of your nail with a thin brush."
Monson used Essie Nail Polish in Geranium.

Draw Dots
"Using the large side of a dotting tool, create scalloped edges on top of your red line by making dots straight across. Don’t use too much polish for this. Try making two dots before picking up more polish on your tool."
This Sephora Nail Art Set includes a thin brush and double-ended dotting tool.

Grab a Green
"Paint half to three-quarters of your nail from the tip downwards in green, leaving a little nude between it and the red."
Monson used OPI Nail Lacquer in Hey! Get in Lime!, but if you can’t find this limited edition shade, RGB Nail Color in Minty makes a great substitute.

Seal the Manicure
"Finish off the look with a clear top coat."
