10 High School Bullies from Movies and TV That Still Haunt Our Dreams
Stories about heroes are created so we can learn to be honest, brave, and loving. But how can heroes become triumphant if there’s no one there to oppose them? Enter bullies. Bullies are created so we know how not to treat other people. Whether they’re stealing lunch money or doing something much dastardlier, bullies are not to be trusted (although we always hope they’ll lean into the light and find redemption).
If you've ever been bullied — well, first of all, you should tell an adult ASAP, but aside from that — you'll relate to the protagonists in school-themed pop culture who have to either stand up to or otherwise overcome the pickings-on of the resident meanie. There have been countless bullies throughout time — both in real life and in the world of make believe — but we find these 10 fictional school bullies to be the most hair-raising, heart-thumping, evil-doing bad guys around.
1/10The Trunchbull from Matilda
Let’s begin with one of the meanest, nastiest, most insufferable bullies of. all. time. Thinking about the Trunchbull is enough to send a shiver down anyone’s spine. She’ll swing you around the schoolyard by your pigtails, or worse, send you to the chokey. Luckily, Matilda was one tough (telekinetic) cookie.
2/10Draco Malfoy from Harry Potter
“Wait until my father hears about this!” Draco Malfoy was just born mean (but the, uh, nurturing ways of his Death Eater parents likely didn't help). Evil, entitled, and full of rage against Potter and his friends for fighting the good fight, Draco Malfoy was truly detestable — even if he did waver and realize that being on Voldemort's team would end well for no one.
3/10Sid Phillips from Toy Story
What kind of sicko preys on innocent toys?!? Sid Phillips, that’s who. OK, so he doesn’t technically go to school with Andy, but he lives next door — and mutilates helpless playthings. How much more despicable can you be?
4/10Regina George in Mean Girls
It’s tough to say who’s ultimately the bigger bully in Mean Girls: Cady Heron or Regina George. But suffice it to say that Regina's on-screen antics have become legendary. She’s conniving, manipulative, and won’t stop until she gets what she wants — that is, unless she gets hit by a bus.
5/10Steff McKee in Pretty in Pink
Steff McKee is the most classic high school villain of all time. Rejected by the movie’s spunky protagonist, Andie, he becomes bitter, vengeful, and downright mean. He encourages his friends to taunt and isolate Andie, all because she rightfully told him she wasn’t interested in his romantic advances.
6/10Marianne Bryant in Easy A
Not only is Marianne Bryant a gossip, but she’s a gossip who thinks she’s doing the world a favor. Perfectly played by Amanda Bynes, Marianne Bryant is the sassy mean chick whose religious beliefs give her meanness meaning. Not only does she think Olive, the film’s protagonist played by Emma Stone, needs to be taught a lesson — but she thinks the entire school should enforce her beliefs, too.
7/10Nelson Muntz in The Simpsons
“Ha Ha!” Nelson’s diabolical laugh is etched into every viewer of The Simpsons’ minds. How can one kid be so young and already so evil? Nelson has a troubled home life, but could he just leave Bart and Milhouse alone for a change?!
8/10Blair Waldorf from Gossip Girl
Gossip Girl was on air for over five years, and during that time, many wrongdoers emerged in the show. However, perhaps none were so calculating as Queen B, you guessed it — Blair Waldorf. Blair eventually overcame her evildoing ways, but before that time, she took down anyone that stood in her way… by any means necessary.
9/10Rodrick Heffley from Diary of a Wimpy Kid
Sometimes the biggest bullies can be encountered within our own families, which is certainly the case in Diary of a Wimpy Kid. Rodrick Heffley is Greg and Manny's mean older brother, and is more obsessed with making music than he is with being a nice guy. You can't get rid of family so easily, but eventually even the meanest older siblings mellow out.
10/10Kate Sanders in Lizzie McGuire
Although she used to be BFFs with Lizzie and Miranda, Kate is way too cool to be seen with those nerds nowadays. She’s captain of the cheerleading team, dates the coolest boys in school, and does anything and everything to mess with Lizzie. Thankfully, Lizzie, Miranda, and Gordo always remembered what mattered most: each other, and not the petty barbs lobbed at them by former friends.
