The 2025 Grammys nominations are here, which means it's time to also talk about the snubs.
Ahead of the 67th Grammy Awards, which will take place on February 2, 2025, at the Crypto.com Arena in Los Angeles, the Recording Academy unveiled the next round of nominees on November 8, 2024.
Despite new adjustments to eligibility criteria and some category renaming, plenty of expected names made the cut: Beyoncé's Cowboy Carter was nominated for Best Country Album (among others) and, after much chatter, Chappell Roan, Shaboozey, and Sabrina Carpenter all bagged a nomination for Best New Artist. However, others did not get the same treatment, and some names were also notably absent from the list. (Cough, Ariana Grande, cough Dua Lipa.)
The Grammys are no stranger to a snub — and even artists themselves have called the organization out for it. “No shade, but I've been doing this for 20 years, and this is my first time actually being taken seriously at the Grammys?" Miley Cyrus, who won her very first Grammy this year, said in an interview. "I've had a hard time figuring out what the measurement is there, because if we want to talk stats and numbers, then where the f*ck was I? And if you want to talk, like, impact on culture, then where the f*ck was I?”
Beyoncé, though she's the artist with the most Grammy wins (32) and the most nominations ever (99 after the 2025 nominations), has consistently been at the forefront of snubs discourse, seeing as the star has never won Album of the Year.
Last year, the Academy failed to nominate a single Latin music artist in the Big Four categories (Album of the Year, Record of the Year, Song of the Year, and Best New Artist), despite the success of the likes of Bad Bunny, Karol G, and Peso Pluma. (In 2022, Bad Bunny's Un Verano Sin Ti became the first Spanish-language album to receive an Album of the Year nom.)
