Rumors have been spreading over the last week or so that Adele might possibly be next year's Super Bowl halftime show performer, according to a UK tabloid's reported NFL source. (The 51st Super Bowl will be held Feb. 5 next year at the NRG stadium in Houston, Texas.) However, on Saturday night (Aug. 13), on the L.A. leg of her tour at the Staples Center, Adele addressed — and completely shut down — any Super Bowl rumors to her fans.
"I'm not doing the Super Bowl," she told everyone at the stadium. "I mean, come on, that show is not about music. And I don’t really — I can’t dance or anything like that. They were very kind, they did ask me, but I said no."
Adele also later added, "I know I’m not Beyoncé, I’m not dancing or anything like that but it's a bit grueling."
But at the same time, Billboard published a joint statement from the NFL and Pepsi, which says Adele hasn't actually been officially offered the gig:
Regardless of how it all went down, we can't help but be a little hopeful that Adele will channel her own "Rumor Has It" lyrics: "just 'cause I said it, it don't mean that I meant it...people say crazy things."
Now, we're waiting to see who will join the A-list roster of halftime show performers, which include Beyoncé, Katy Perry, Coldplay, and Bruno Mars.
