Warning: This post contains spoilers for Alice in Borderland seasons 1 and 2.
If you finished Squid Game season 3, look no further than Alice in Borderland season 3 for your next watch. Back in 2021, when the South Korean drama took Netflix by storm, we already recommended Alice in Borderland as a similar title to watch.
Based on the manga of the same name by Haro Aso (published by Shogakukan), Alice in Borderland premiered on Netflix in 2020 with an even more brutal series of survival-style games and an added element of dystopia. Season 2 of the Japanese show hit the streamer on December 22, 2022, and since then, the countdown has been on for Alice in Borderland season 3.
Directed by Shinsuke Sato, season 3 of Alice in Borderland will pick up a little after the events of season 2. In case you need a refresher, we last saw Arisu (played by Kento Yamazaki) and Usagi (Tao Tsuchiya) returning to the real world after successfully completing all the games, with no recollection of what had happened. We got a peek at the pair reconnecting at a hospital. Since then, they have gotten married and are living a happy life, but suddenly, they find themselves back in the borderland and about to tackle one last final card: the Joker, which was teased in the very last scene of season 2.
Below, find out everything you need to know about Alice in Borderland season 3, from details about its plot and cast to images, trailers, and its exact release date.
Is there a trailer for Alice in Borderland season 3?
There is indeed. Netflix released the official trailer for Alice in Borderland season 3 on August 26, 2025. In the trailer, which you can watch above, we see flashes of Arisu's happy life as he gets the ominous invite (a.k.a. card) to return to the borderland — of course, with a bit of extortion as he is informed that Usagi has already joined. “I don't care if I die if there's a chance to save Usagi,” Arisu proclaims in the trailer as we see players getting ready for their first game.
Previously, Netflix released a teaser trailer for Alice in Borderland season 3 on July 7, 2025, which begins with Arisu and Usagi recounting their vague memories of the borderland, which they recall as dreams, on camera.
“Since Arisu and Usagi are split into separate teams, I found it interesting to see the different atmospheres and character dynamics within each group. Over the seasons, the characters have become so beloved by fans, and I think that’s why the audience can really empathize with them during the life-or-death moments," Kento Yamazaki told Netflix.
“Everything Usagi has experienced in the past seasons is now part of her story, so whenever I needed to, I would go back and rewatch Seasons 1 and 2. With Season 3 featuring an original story, I felt it was important to approach this role with everything that’s happened so far in mind," Tao Tsuchiya added. “As the players become more desperate, everyone’s performances become more intense and dramatic … the essence of Alice in Borderland [is] about life and death, and about discovering how you truly want to live."
When does Alice in Borderland season 3 come out?
After an almost three-year wait, Alice in Borderland season 3 will premiere on September 25, 2025, only on Netflix. The show will be available to stream worldwide on the platform. The show will become available at midnight PT. Seasons 1 and 2 each had eight episodes. Although the total number of episodes for Season 3 remains unconfirmed, they will all be released at once.
What will Alice in Borderland season 3 be about?
Alice in Borderland season 3 will see both Arisu and Usagi return to the borderland years after the events of season 2. The series' official synopsis is as follows: "It's time to return to the Borderland... In the previous season, Arisu and Usagi cleared every card's game and returned to the real world. Now married, they lead a happy life, though their memories of the Borderland surface only in dreams and hallucinations.
One day, Usagi suddenly vanishes. Guided by Ryuji, a man who studies the afterlife, she sets out for the Borderland. A devastated Arisu is visited by Banda, now a Borderland resident, who informs him of Usagi’s whereabouts. Arisu must now follow her back into inevitable danger to find her. Upon his return, Arisu faces a barrage of fire arrows and electric currents powerful enough to fry victims alive. Will he find Usagi and return to their world? What awaits them and the other players — hope or despair? With only the Joker card remaining, the game it holds for Arisu and the others remains a mystery. The Borderland returns on an even grander scale, with stunning visuals that will captivate viewers."
