Amelia Gray is the latest star to join the cast of The Devil Wears Prada 2, the highly anticipated sequel led by Anne Hathaway and Meryl Streep, and she's bringing her own style to the streets of New York City. This August, the Big Apple has become one of the backdrops for the film, and — fortunately or unfortunately — we are being privy to some of the movie's looks in real time.
In Amelia Gray's case, however, we are not really focusing on her character's wardrobe, but one of her own off-duty looks arriving on set, which is giving us all the inspo for back-to-school dressing thanks to its relaxed and casual vibe.
Arriving on set, Gray was seen wearing one of fall's staple transitional pieces: the black leather jacket. As one of her trademark pieces, Gray already boasts an enviable collection of jackets, which we have seen her wear religiously during Paris Fashion Week, both in street-style looks to roam around the city and while sitting front row at Saint Laurent.
It is precisely the slouchy silhouette she already favored at Saint Laurent earlier this year that has gotten Gray's stamp of approval again on the Devil Wears Prada 2 set. Though miles and miles away from the City of Light, Gray opted for another vintage-looking slouchy black leather jacket for her casual ‘fit, cosigning the style as one we’ll surely soon see repeated throughout this year's fall-winter trends.
Warm, comfy, and stylish, the “dad” style jacket was bound to be a coveted item this coming season, and the key to nailing the style is finding the right hue to match your wardrobe (we are thinking capsule here!) as well as the right amount of oversized.
While we are not sure what brand Gray's exact jacket is — it might be Saint Laurent again, or very well may be even plucked from a family member's closet — the style shines bright because of its dropped shoulders, creating that huggy effect that only an oversized garment can give. If you, too, are looking to incorporate a jacket or bomber with the same qualities into your wardrobe, just focus on moving away from the fitted and hyper-feminine cuts.
Gray styled her bomber jacket, amping up the slouch factor by opting for low-rise loose straight jeans in a blue lightwash, which she added a black leather belt with a silver buckle to. She also added a slightly cropped baby tee for some contrast and added some gorpcore sneakers to tie in the rest. However, it would be very remiss of us not to point out one last detail: her purple Balenciaga City bag, one of the throwback “it” bags of the year, to bring a bit of color to the mostly muted outfit.
