Following the first day of fall collections, hopes were high for succeeding presentations, thanks to the bar set by design duo Lauren Alexander and April Leight of rocker-chic brand LnA (http://www.lnaclothing.com). These California-native newbies made their NYC Fashion Week debut last Thursday at the penthouse of Milk Studios, followed by a star-studded party (a guest list that ranged from Aggy Deyn to Josh Harnett) featuring performances by the likes of punk queen Patti Smith, indie fave Metric and a DJ set my downtown duo (and Style Blogger’s comrades) Harley and Cassie. No wonder there was a line around the block to get in!

The 12-look collection boasted effortless striped mini dresses, paneled leggings, and slashed variations on their signature cotton t-shirts (Style Blogger’s favorite). The edgy assortment of sweater knits and leathers was inspired by music industry it-girls like Alison Mosshart of the Kills and The Dead Weather, Natasha Khan of Bat for Lashes, and of course, the life of the fête that night, Patti Smith. Models sported unfussy accessories by Brooklyn-based jewelry designer Lady Grey, and adorable unisex oord shoes by industry favorite YMC. Lauren and April set out in 2007 to concoct the perfect men’s tee for women, and this rock n’ roll design team has clearly hit the mark--and the ground running. ---Laurel Benedum
