One of the best things about awards season is the red carpet beauty looks and what goes into them. Two standout looks from the 2021 Golden Globes were Anya Taylor-Joy and Sarah Hyland, who both rocked versions of the classic Hollywood glam look, with two completely different approaches on the beauty side: high-end vs. drugstore.

Anya’s look dove into the bronze smokey eye and bold lashes with a natural lip and complexion, while Sarah’s look was all about warm tones and starry shimmer, with a smoked-out eye. Anya’s look was achieved entirely using Dior Beauty products while Sarah’s look was from popular drugstore brand e.l.f., proving you can get the Hollywood look with any budget.

Anya's look was crafted by makeup artist Georgie Eisdell, inspired by her breathtaking emerald Dior Haute Couture dress. Eisdell saw the gown and the rest, as they say, was history. “The look has a little '70s vibe to it, so I wanted to lean into that, but keep it modern,” the MUA said. “So we went with a smokey bronzed eye, gorgeous fluffy lash, and soft cheek. To pull it all together, I opted for a modern, nude lip.”

To prep Anya’s face, Eisdell used Dior's Totale C.E.L.L. skin care line, massaging it into the actor's skin to achieve a radiant and plump base. "Anya's skin is stunning and flawless; I didn't want to cover it. I used Dior’s Forever Skin Glow to even out her skin. Then I used the Dior Forever Skin Correct lightly under her eyes to brighten and illuminate. Following this, I used the Dior Backstage Face & Body Powder-no-powder [in] #2N to take the edge of the shine just in her T-zone. Then I used the Dior Rouge Blush #475 Rose Caprice Matte on the apple of her cheeks [and] added the Dior Backstage Glow Face Palette [in] #001 Universal very slightly over the top to add a glow and illuminate the cheekbone," the artist shared in an email.

One standout part of Anya’s look was her fluttery, cloud-like lashes. Georgie achieved this by applying the Diorshow Iconic Overcurl mascara in layers, making sure to get to the base of the lash and complementing them with some individual false lashes. "I added depth to the eye by using the dark brown across the lash line," she also shared. For the eyeshadow, Eisdell used Dior 5 Couleurs Couture #599 New Look, mixing the lighter bronze and deeper bronze together to achieve the perfect shade and applying from the lid up to the crease.

To finish the eye look, Eisdell shaped Anya's using the Diorshow Brow Styler in #001 Universal Brown, extending the brow slightly and locking them in place with the Diorshow Pump 'n' Brow in #011 Blonde.

Sarah’s look, on the other hand, was designed to complement her new auburn hair, according to Allan Avendaño, the makeup artist who worked with her for the Golden Globes. "I was inspired to bring warmth and glow to let this look let her radiant skin shine with a sun-kissed complexion, a classic shimmery eye, and a nude lip to highlight her features and red statement gown,” he said, per Byrdie.

Sarah’s own natural skin also shined through, as Allan used e.l.f.’s new Camo CC Cream, one of TikTok's beauty faves, with the Complexion Duo Brush for that airbrushed look. Good news for anyone hoping to replicate Sarah’s look: The entire makeup kit of e.l.f. products used on Sarah cost only $66.

In the past decade, affordable makeup brands have really stepped it up in terms of quality and long wear, to the point where luxury and drugstore can both share the red carpet spotlight! We’re so looking forward to the rest of the looks awards season will bless us with.
