Ariana Grande Declares She Loves America (But Distrusts Donuts)

If you haven't heard, Ariana Grande is getting some heat after a recent trip to Wolfee Donuts in Lake Elsinore, CA. Usually these outings only result in a stomach full of sprinkles and frosting, but not this time, the result was a little less sweet: the superstar was caught on camera saying something that has her fans furious.

In the footage, Ariana is seen sneakily licking donuts with her maybe-boyfriend/definite-backup dancer, Ricky Alvarez, when the employees weren't looking. But that's not why Arianators are mad. After they brought her out a fresh tray of pastries, she said something that left everyone jaw-dropped: "What the f*ck is that? I hate Americans. I hate America." Eek. That's something you don't let come out of your mouth ever, especially after Americans are on an all-time patriotic high post-Fourth of July.

She does have an explanation for her behavior, though. After seeing she was making headlines, Ariana gave BuzzFeed a comment on the matter, defending her real problem: donuts and their impact on the country.

I am EXTREMELY proud to be an American and I’ve always made it clear that I love my country. What I said in a private moment with my friend, who was buying the donuts, was taken out of context and I am sorry for not using more discretion with my choice of words. As an advocate for healthy eating, food is very important to me and I sometimes get upset by how freely we as Americans eat and consume things without giving any thought to the consequences that it has on our health and society as a whole. The fact that the United States has the highest child obesity rate in the world frustrates me. We need to do more to educate ourselves and our children about the dangers of overeating and the poison that we put into our bodies. We need to demand more from our food industry. However I should have known better in how I expressed myself; and with my new responsibility to others as a public figure I will strive to be better. As for why I cannot be at the MLB show, I have had emergency oral surgery and due to recovery I cannot attend the show. I hope to make it up to all those fans soon. That being said let me once again apologize if I have offended anyone with my poor choice of words.

So there you have it. Ari loves the U.S. of A., but she's really not into what we put in our bodies. Now we're just left here wondering why she was casually licking the one thing she hates most. Sprinkles are pretty irresistible.

Update: After realizing she "missed [her] opportunity to sincerely apologize and express how [she] was feeling," Ariana decided to follow-up her last statement with a video, saying she's "disgusted with herself." Watch it below:
