Model and actor Barbie Ferreira has long been a key style inspiration, in part due to her role as a fan-favorite cast member on HBO's Euphoria. Now, after her departure from the show, Ferreira is back and taking visuals into her own hands with a capsule collection in partnership with Levi's. Barbie Ferreira's Levi's collaboration brings her creative vision to the forefront and includes an eerie cinematic campaign showcasing the new designs.
Speaking to Teen Vogue, Ferreira explains she envisioned the capsule collection to be reminiscent of David Lynch's work in the '90s cult classics Twin Peaks and The Craft, focusing on goth, fall vibes, as she describes them. “I wanted to shoot it at night with water," she says. "I needed it to be expressive, like stills from a movie, not the typical smiling model. I think with the color scheme of black, gray, green, it’s staying in the cinematic world.”
To bring this vision to life, Ferreira tapped artist and director Petra Collins, who also happens to be a longtime friend and collaborator. “Petra and I have been working together for over 10 years now. I'm about to be 27, and I met her when I was 16,” Ferreira says. “We have this language and shared respect for each other, so it's actually one of the easiest things to shoot with Petra, which is why I really wanted to do this. We have this mutual respect for each other's creative vision.”
The inspiration from friends doesn’t stop there for Ferreira. The actor's best friend, Ben Evans, also had a hand in designing a recurring logo for the collection — a bunny graphic that appears on multiple pieces. “The logo came about because I have this tattoo that he drew,” Ferreira explains. “He drew this really cool bunny demon, and I got it as a stick and poke at my house. It was one of my first tattoos.”
For Ferreira, it’s clear that the personal aspects of this capsule are what make it exceptional. “My dream is to always include my friends who I creatively align with,” she says. “It just makes it really intimate and special and personal, and this entire collection is incredibly personal. It's me, my friends, and Levi's…. We all collaborated on this.”
While every piece in the capsule has Ferreira's unique point of view in mind, the star definitely has her favorite items. Her number one choice is the oversized, long dress coat crafted from washed black denim, which features Evans's doodles on the interior. Ferreira calls her friend the “unsung hero of the collection.” She says: “I saw my friend's man wearing it. I put it on people and it looks amazing. It's grungy, and I like the drop shoulder. It’s moody and cool.”
Ferreira's second choice is the jeans in the collection, which also include the original logo, for the “anyone-can-wear-it vibe.” Another star from the collection is the reversible, '90s-style Tulip hat, made with chartreuse denim on one side and a colorful woven fabric on the other, inspired, Ferreira tells Teen Vogue, by Animal Crossing.
With each piece in the collection, Ferreira's hope is that everyone can tell stories with their clothing, no matter where their personal motivation comes from. “This collection was inspired by my love for beautiful scenes and creating a story with my everyday wardrobe,” she said in a press release.
