While the clothes were the focus of the New York Fashion Week Fall/Winter 2023 cycle, there were some eye-catching beauty trends on the runways as well. From Sandy Liang's academia-inspired show to Bach Mai's siren-themed presentation, there was something for everyone and a bit of everything for those who love it all.

The best part is that this season was a DIY-lover’s paradise. It was all in the details this year, and the artists stepped up with new and innovative ways to use our favorite essentials. The emphasis was not on what you have, but how you wear it, giving us plenty of inspo. Here are some beauty trends from the runway that we can't stop thinking about.

With the rise of core aesthetics and Euphoria makeup, bright and vibrant colors have been trending in beauty, but it seems darker hues are having their moment now. In fact, Rodarte, a brand which previously went viral for its balletcore campaign, gave goth-inspired chic on the runway. Heavy eyeliner and dark lipstick are the essentials for this look.

We wouldn’t give up on core aesthetics that easily. The newest trend bubbling up is mermaidcore, and Bach Mai brought it to Fashion Week with his siren-inspired presentation. Iridescent highlight, shimmery eyeshadow, and pink blush make the mermaid aesthetic pop.

This year, a handful of designers opted to lessen the eye makeup and focus the attention on bold lip colors instead. Siriano’s flower-themed show featured hues of glossy pink, red and purple lipsticks, accentuated by strong contour lines leading to the lips. Sandy Liang’s lead makeup artist Marcelo Gutierrez used the shade Cool Nude from ILIA Beauty’s The Necessary Eyeshadow Palette for a frosty one-tone eye look and ILIA Color Block Lipstick in the color Rumba to up the contrast.

While some brands went for vibrant colors of lipsticks, others went in the complete opposite direction and opted for nude lips. KGL and Coach matched models’ lips to their skin tone, creating a simple but edgy look.

Barely-there clothing is trending, so why not makeup? Christian Cowan and Brandon Maxwell’s runways reminded us of the importance of “no-makeup” makeup looks. Highlight your best features as they are with a light coverage product like a soft lipgloss or a sheer blush.
