You don’t have to wait until the new year to become a new you — and Apple Music knows that well. With a bit of help from Becky G, Rauw Alejandro, Grupo Frontera, Honey Dijon, Jamie xx, FKA twigs, Nia Archives, Brian Eno, Stephan Moccio, and more, Apple Music is closing off 2024 with a bang and announcing the expansion of its live global radio offering.
Unveiled today, December 10, Apple Music has added three new stations to its roster: Apple Música Uno, Apple Music Club, and Apple Music Chill. The new stations join Apple Music 1, Apple Music Hits, and Apple Music Country, and will spotlight even more genres and subgenres with live-hosted shows that anyone can tune into for free without the need for a subscription via Apple Music Radio.
"Apple Music Radio is the beating heart of our service," Oliver Schusser, Apple’s vice president of Music, Sports, and Beats, said in a statement. “We put a lot of time and care into making sure these new radio stations are really bespoke, highly curated, and hosted by some of the world’s best music commentators with unique programming that we know our listeners will love.”
“In a world of AI and algorithms, Apple Music Radio is live,” Zane Lowe, Apple Music’s global creative director and lead anchor for Apple Music 1, added. “It’s real people, it’s a shared event, and I’m so excited to be broadening that experience to listeners worldwide with [these] three new stations.”
While Apple Music Club will focus on dance and electronic music and Apple Music Chill will have all your lo-fi, destressing needs covered, Apple Música Uno will tap into the ever-extensive world of Latin music. Teen Vogue's September 2022 cover star Becky G will serve as the station’s official launch host with weekly one-hour shows airing Wednesdays at 6 a.m. PT/9 a.m. ET. Rauw Alejandro and Grupo Frontera will also take on hosting duties of their own for special shows, and Evelyn Sicairos and Lechero will greet listeners daily.
“I feel incredibly honored to have my own Apple Music radio show and be the voice of Apple Música Uno, where I can curate some of my favorite tracks and share my experiences with my fans,” said Becky G. "Growing up, I used to watch and listen to music programs that inspired me so much, and I was always in awe of the artists before me. Now, years later, I can’t believe I get to have my own show and hopefully inspire others in the same way. I hope fans will tune in, laugh with us, enjoy some great music, discover new tracks they haven’t heard before, and leave feeling inspired."
To celebrate the launch of Apple Música Uno, Teen Vogue caught up with Becky G about what to expect from the station and her show, exciting new talent, and her plans for 2025.
Becky G: This came at the perfect time because I've been wanting to share what these last two years have been like. Last year was my first headlining tour, and now, here we are doing it all over again. It's been such a special experience — every show, every night, connecting with the fans who show up and give so much love to what we've created.
Even the fans who can’t make it to the shows have been showing so much love for my new music, and it means everything to me. I’ve always felt a deep connection with my fans, but these last two years, with the Casa Gomez tour and my albums Esquinas and Encuentros, it’s been on another level. I've been wanting to find a way to share all the things that have made this journey so beautiful, so when Apple Música Uno came on my radar, I knew it would be a perfect fit.
BG: I am thankful for Apple Music for giving me and so many artists a platform to connect with fans [and] share a little bit of my world, my life, my culture, and the music I love.
BG: I've done a few things before, like guest DJing and curating music in Apple Music, which is always fun. I've also done podcasts in the past. Back in 2020, I hosted En La Sala with Amazon, and it was such a great experience. It felt so natural to connect with my peers and people I've always wanted to talk to, just having real conversations about their experiences and finding ways to relate to each other. That was four years ago though, so I'm really excited to have the chance to do it again now and even more excited that it's during this era of my life of Encuentros and on a platform that has such great radio shows. It's a blessing!
BG: Apple Music has always been known for its incredible radio shows featuring hosts like Bad Bunny, Frank Ocean, and Elton John! With their decade-long expertise and global reach, they've truly set themselves apart. Now, they're bringing that same energy to the Latin music space, creating something truly special. It's an amazing opportunity for artists like me to connect directly with fans while celebrating the rich diversity of Latin music on a global stage. If you're looking to dive deeper into our culture and music, this is definitely something you won't want to miss!
BG: There are so many to choose from! There's, for instance, this new artist, Delilah, who does Música Mexicana. I collaborated with [her] on my new album. [She] is so special, and I can’t wait for fans to discover more of her music.
Another artist I can't [wait]for people to get to know is Wyatt Flores. [He] is an amazing artist and definitely deserves a shout-out. His songs come from a deep place of pride from where he’s from and the love for his family. He has a great story, and I can’t wait for his music to connect with more and more people.
BG: I wouldn’t want to choose just one. [There are] so many genres within the Latin space that I am most excited to highlight that moving forward, the vast variety of options and amazing music our culture has to offer.
BG: I won’t share them all because I genuinely loved so much music this year. From Tito Double P, Peso Pluma, Karol, Emilia, Feid, Angela, and Leonardo Aguilar, too many to name! This year had so much new music to offer and it has been such a pleasure to see so many artists give it their all in their art.
BG: Every day, I have a new favorite song from the album. With Encuentros, I was able to reconnect with my inner child, going back to little Becky singing Música Mexicana with her papi and using music to process everything around me. When I decided to continue the journey I started with Esquinas, I tapped into the version of myself that feels the most authentic.
A few weeks ago, my favorite song was “GOMEZX4” because I wrote it as older-sister Becky G, for my little sister, who just turned 21. This week, my favorite is the one I have with Tito, “Crisis,” because it’s so different. Let’s see which one becomes my favorite next week!
BG: They are Side A and B to one another. Esquinas is the beginning of a journey I began in dedication to my grandfather. I had titled that album Esquinas because it was the crossroad between my two cultures. Encuentros is that continuation; they are the things you find along the way of this journey of self-reflection and growth.
BG: Yes, there is new music coming! I can’t wait for my fans to listen to what we have been working on.
BG: This year has been such a blessing. I performed at the Oscars, which was already a dream, but to do it alongside my local Inglewood band and work with Eva Longoria and Diane Warren made it even more special.
I also got to attend Vogue World during Paris Fashion Week, hit the road again to spend time with my fans and release music that brought me so much joy and deeply resonated with them. On top of that, I performed one of my favorite songs at the Latin Grammys. Honestly, I’m just feeling so grateful for everything.
Next year, I am inspired to keep writing and singing, collaborating with artists who deeply inspire me, meet more of my fans in Latin America, and keep making music that I just know my fans will love!
