Almost exactly three years after the first installment of Beef was released, Netflix is unveiling the first extended look at season two, putting new cast members and stories in the spotlight in this joint venture with cinephile-favorite A24.
The second season of Beef sees creator Lee Sung Jin returning as showrunner and executive producer; on the latter front, he is joined by season one stars Steven Yeun and Ali Wong, plus season two leads Carey Mulligan, Oscar Isaac, Charles Melton, Cailee Spaeny, and many others. The stakes are higher than ever, as anticipation has been brewing since the second installment was announced in 2024, with more and more eyes on the cast and crew (for better or worse) since the release of the acclaimed first season.
Below, find out everything you need to know about Beef season two before it premieres on Netflix, including how it relates to season one, first-look photos, trailers, a cast guide, and more.
Is Beef season 2 connected to season 1?
Long story short, Beef is an anthology series, so seasons one and two are technically not connected. Though the seasons could exist in the same universe, like The White Lotus, Beef's second season will feature an all-new cast and—as Netflix has already teased—brand-new “beef.”
The first season of Beef, starring Steven Yeun and Ali Wong, debuted on Netflix in April 2023 and racked up multiple awards, including eight Emmys, four Critics' Choice Awards, and three Golden Globes.
The show also drew backlash after controversial comments from 2014 by cast member David Choe resurfaced, in which he told a story about sexually assaulting a masseuse; he later said he made it up for “shock value.” Choe reportedly issued a statement saying the story wasn’t true in 2014 and released an apology in 2017, when the remarks resurfaced. After Beef came out, the show’s creator, Lee Sung Jin, and Yeun and Wong weighed in on the controversy, condemning the story while also saying Choe had worked to “better himself” in the years since.
What will Beef season 2 be about?
Beef's second season follows a brand-new story. With the tagline "Every couple meets their match," this season follows a young, newly engaged couple who work at an elite country club. They film “an alarming fight between their millennial boss and his wife, triggering chess moves of favors and coercion in the elitist world of a country club and its Korean billionaire owner." Per Netflix, we will be privy to “a blackmail war” between two couples this season.
“Much like season one, this season was ripped from the headlines of my life," creator Lee Sung Jin told Tudum. "It was loosely based on a loud argument overheard from a neighbor’s home. The varying reactions from everyone who heard [it] fascinated me. We changed the setting to a workplace, because I wanted to explore the boss-employee dynamic more. And rather than a ‘boomer couple versus younger couple’ setup—which we’ve seen a lot before—we thought, What if we actually made them a little bit closer in age and highlighted the generational divide between the millennial couple and the Gen Z couple?”
When does Beef season 2 come out on Netflix?
Beef season two premieres on April 16, exclusively on Netflix. Much like season one, all episodes will be released at once; however, unlike season one, season two will only feature eight episodes.
Who is in the cast of Beef season 2?
Season two of Beef stars Oscar Isaac as Joshua Martín, the general manager of a country club, and Carey Mulligan as his wife, Lindsay Crane-Martín. The younger couple is played by Riverdale alum Charles Melton as Austin Davis and Cailee Spaeny as Ashley Miller. South Korean actor Seoyeon Jang rounds out the series regulars as Eunice.
Additional cast members include Pachinko's Youn Yuhjung as Chairwoman Park, “the elitist club's billionaire owner"; Parasite's Song Kangho as Doctor Kim, Park's second husband; William Fichtner as Troy; Matthew Kim (a.k.a. KARD's BM, or Big Matthew) as Woosh; and Mikaela Hoover (yes, the same Mikaela Hoover who voices Chopper on the live-action One Piece) as Ava.
