When it comes to J-Beauty, a lot of people tend to focus on Japanese skin care, but we are here to remind you not to sleep on Japanese mascaras. If you want to take your eyelashes to the next level in 2026, Japanese mascaras (and Asian mascaras as a whole) should definitely be on your wishlist.

Asian beauty offerings are very different from what you’ll find at the drugstore in the West — and while I love my Maybelline Lash Sensational Sky High mascara, my whole world changed when I tried Japanese mascaras for the first time. If you love to emphasize length when it comes to your eye makeup, Asian mascaras are a great choice, especially if you don’t wear eyeliner like me and really want your lashes to pop.

If that sounds right up your alley, we have rounded up the best Japanese mascaras to help you achieve the wispy eyelashes of your dreams — even if you don’t naturally have long lashes.

1. Our Top Pick: Kiss Me Heroine Make Mascaras

Kiss Me

Heroine Make Micro Mascara Advanced Film Mascara

  • Wand type: Ultra-fine brush
  • Great for: Reaching fine lashes, lengthening, and precision

You really can’t go wrong with any of the Kiss Me Heroine mascaras. Many people love the Kiss Me Heroine Make Long & Curl Mascara Advanced Film and the Kiss Me Heroine Make Volume Up Mascara Super Waterproof — and they are great, but my personal favorite is the micro version.

I first stumbled upon this mascara a few years ago while on a trip to Tokyo (at Don Quijote, of course), and only picked it up because it was on sale, but it’s been my go-to ever since. The wand is so thin that you can reach into tight corners and apply with precision. It’s also on the drier side, which helps get an even application if you are quick. It’s super lengthening. One coat, as pictured here, will already take your lashes from 0 to 100. However, it’s definitely buildable if you want a more full-on look, and I find that clumping is not a problem.

I find that this mascara very rarely smudges during the day, but you do need to be mindful as it can transfer during application if you blink. (It makes your lashes so long that they will reach your undereyes, and it dries fast, so you should wipe quickly if that happens.) Once you get the hang of it, though, this mascara is practically perfect. I prefer my mascara black to match my natural color, but most styles are also available in brown if you prefer a softer look or if that’s closer to your natural color. Whenever I wear this, my lashes look super defined all day, so I get why it’s a Japanese beauty staple.

Pro tip: if you want to make your life easier, get the Heroine Make Speedy Mascara Remover as well. The mascara will come out with some cleansers, but it will take a lot of effort. The remover causes it to melt immediately. If you are planning a trip to Japan, you’ll see both the mascaras and the remover everywhere. If not, fret not because retailers like YesStyle, Amazon, and Olive Young also stock both internationally.

2. Canmake Metalook Mascara

  • Wand type: Fine metal comb-style brush
  • Great for: Reaching fine lashes, precision, and making cluster looks

If you have seen people all over TikTok using metal mascaras, the Canmake Metalook Mascara is a hidden gem you might want to check out. Like the Kiss Me above, the applicator is super thin, so you can get in all the corners and coat each lash individually.

This mascara primarily adds length, though you can build it up to add volume if you are not going for a super full look. Application is easy, and it lasts long and holds curl. Another thing this mascara is excellent for is grabbing and clustering lashes to create the manga lashes look without falsies!

3. Dejavu Fiberwig Ultra Long Mascara

Dejavu

Fiberwig Ultra Long Mascara

  • Wand type: Long bristle curved brush
  • Great for: Lengthening and separating

One of the OG Japanese mascaras is the Dejavu Fiberwig, and for good reason. This is pretty much your all-rounder mascara. It features a bigger brush that gives both volume and length and makes application easier for first-time users. This one is marketed for its false-lash effect, and while it doesn't create the fullest look, it’s a great middle ground between Asian-style and Western mascaras.

4. Opera My Lash Advanced Mascara

  • Wand type: Slim, straight brush
  • Great for: Lengthening and separating

Clocking in at $15 is another all-time favorite: the Opera My Lash Advanced Mascara. Although its packaging can be confusing with the Dejavu Fiberwig, which also has similar uses, the applications are very different. The My Lash mascara features a thin brush for precise application, and while it also creates a false-lash illusion, the style is much thinner.

As noted by many reviewers, this one can smudge after a bit of wear, so I wouldn’t recommend it for days when you’ll be out of the house from morning to night, but it’d be perfect for shorter periods. The finished result is a natural, elongated look. If you prefer a softer look, there’s also a brown version.

5. Kosé Fasio Permanent Curl Mascara Waterproof Long

KOSE

Fasio Permanent Curl Mascara Hybrid Long

  • Wand type: Curved bristle brush
  • Great for: Lengthening and lifting

Another hidden gem is the Kosé Fasio Curling mascara range, in particular the Permanent Curl Mascara Waterproof Long. If you want your curl to last all day, this is your pick. This mascara comes in super cute packaging and features a curved wand.

Like the Kiss Me, it can transfer during application until you get the hang of it, but the result is worth it. Despite its more traditional curved brush, you can still achieve plenty of precision. This one gives long-wearing volume and length that still looks natural, and with no smudging post-application.

6. DHC Perfect Pro Double Protection Mascara

DHC

Mascara Perfect Pro Double Protection

  • Wand type: Slim, flexible brush
  • Great for: Lengthening and separating

DHC is a staple Japanese brand, and while most people gravitate towards their supplements, this mascara should also be on your radar. It features a slim, flexible wand that allows for precision, making sure you reach every lash. However, the best part is that it is a water-resistant tubing mascara, meaning you’ll get no flaking or clumping, but it’s easily washable with just warm water, no makeup remover required.

If you want a one-and-done mascara, this might be it. The only downside is that it is only available in black, so if you are a brown mascara truther, we’re sorry. (Also, fun fact, this is Emma Watson’s favorite mascara!)

7. Cezanne Lasting Curl Mascara

CEZANNE

Lasting Curl Mascara

  • Wand type: Double-comb style wand
  • Great for: Evenly coating, precise application, separating

Clocking in at only $9 (yes, that is nine USD), Cezanne’s best-selling Lasting Curl Mascara is one of the most affordable Japanese mascaras you can purchase, and it’s a great bang for your buck. If you love brown mascaras, there are multiple shades to choose from. This mascara is known for being super lengthening, even for people with super short lashes.

Its secret resides in its super-thin double-sided applicator, which makes separation ultra-easy. The application is so even that many people use this as a multitasking product, applying it as a mascara base to add length before applying another mascara.
