As conversations continue about racism in the workplace and the disparity in pay and opportunities given to white employees and BIPOC employees, the media industry is also taking a look inward. Major media companies have started to take a public stance to address toxic workplace culture towards their employees of color and social media has been a vital vehicle for these conversations.
Twitter, in particular, has been a tool for education, accountability, and creativity. In the past few days, the Vogue Challenge became a trend for BIPOC creators to showcase their talents. By participating in the trend, Twitter users took the Vogue logo and recreated their own Vogue cover, an opportunity that has been historically and intentionally excluded from people of color.
