Billie Eilish just gave us some unconventional style inspo in an even more unconventional place.

The 2024 Paris Olympics ended with many unrelated things: Tom Cruise flew from the ceiling, the Olympic flag was passed from the mayor of Paris to the mayor of Los Angeles, and Eilish performed wearing two completely different earrings.

The singer performed “Birds of a Feather” with her brother Finneas. On stage, the siblings both wore looks by Ralph Lauren – the brand also created the opening and closing ceremony looks for all the athletes – but Eilish's look had an interesting flourish. Alongside her Ralph Lauren sweatband and Nike boots, she accessorized with two mismatched earrings. One was a square diamond stud and the other was a silver hoop (clearly from a set that she was wearing together earlier in the evening).

Mismatched earrings may seem like the lazy person's accessorizing hack but in reality, it's a great way to play with your jewelry look (especially for back-to-school). There's no right or wrong way to do it but there are a few tips and tricks that can make it easier. For starters try to balance your set, if you have one dangly earring, opt for a stud over a large hoop. Also, don't be afraid to mix metals – even on the same ear, you could try a gold and silver huggie for every other. And if you need some more inspo, just look to Billie Eilish!
