Title IX is a hugely powerful tool for sexual assault survivors in both high school and college, giving them legal leverage in gaining protection from their attackers. But one of the men who's largely responsible for the legislation is being accused of sexual assault.
In a series of tweets, Xeni Jardin, a tech journalist, is accusing Birch Bayh, a former U.S. senator from Indiana, of assaulting her. Vox reports that Xeni alleged that he groped her in the back of a car while two of her male colleagues looked on. Vox notes that it has reached out to both Jardin and Bayh for comment.

Xeni said in her tweets that it was very common for a powerful man to try to take advantage of a young woman. Her colleagues, she said, didn’t stop Bayh from groping her because there was money at stake.

Though unrelated, it’s worth mentioning that Bayh’s son, Evan Bayh, is running to reclaim his former Senate seat in Indiana, according to Vox. Xeni said in her tweets that she has no opinion on Evan Bayh, but his campaign resurfaced the memories of his father.
