The 2019 Academy Awards ceremony will take place in just about a month — and the highly anticipated nominations for this year's Oscars have finally been announced.
Following a blockbuster year at the box office, Black Panther received a nomination for Best Picture, alongside films including A Star Is Born, BlacKkKlansman, Bohemian Rhapsody, The Favourite, Green Book, Roma, A Star Is Born, and Vice. The film earned additional nominations, for Best Original Score and Best Costume Design.
Other highlights include Best Actress nominations for Lady Gaga and Yalitza Aparicio, and Best Animated Feature nods for Incredibles 2, Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse, Mirai, Ralph Breaks the Internet, and Isle of Dogs.
The nominations come after the the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences announced the debut of a brand new category. That category — which was intended to celebrate the most popular movie — was later axed from the ceremony. Following continued social media criticism and concern regarding the category, the Academy announced that "additional input" was needed regarding the implementation of the new award.
Despite the indefinite postponement of the award, the Academy does intend to move forward with another change — a shortened awards ceremony. As previously reported by The Hollywood Reporter, this year's ceremony will be televised for three hours.
There's no word yet on who will host this year's shorter Oscars. Kevin Hart — who was previously slated to host — stepped down following backlash surrounding a series of old homophobic tweets that he'd made. A source reportedly told People that the show would likely not have a host this year, but it's also being reported that it's possible "some variation of multiple hosts" could be featured.
Check out the complete list of nominations below. The awards show will be broadcast on February 24.
