Once upon a time, double denim was a total sartorial no-go. But in recent years it has been cropping up in catwalk collections – and subsequently on celebrities – meaning the much-derided Canadian tuxedo is now a legitimate look. Just ask BLACKPINK’s Jennie.

The 23-year-old star shared an Instagram photo that proves full-look denim still has legs for Fall/Winter 2020. Her outfit was packed with punkish energy, thanks to the graffiti-like Powerpuff Girls plastered over her baggy jeans, which she wore with a patchwork denim blazer, chunky Kicker-style lace-ups, and a burgundy leather vest. She added star factor with oversized shades (from Gentle Monster, of course) and hooked a spare pair over her cute white pearl-chain bag from Korean brand Nieeh.

For those who have been playing close attention, Jennie’s casual look might seem like something of a fashion U-turn from the BLACKPINK star. Fans are used to seeing the K-Pop icon in feminine pieces (usually by her much-loved Chanel), but the effect of this outfit was rather more androgynous.

Just a day earlier, Jennie chose a girlish navy Chanel ensemble to watch the Spring/Summer 2021 show from its Seoul flagship. She wore a navy lace dress that evoked the classic Chanel jacket and added romantic loose waves and a smoky eye. Just when you thought this style maven was all about a single aesthetic, she flips the script and shows she has more than one fashion story to tell.
