Since her debut in 2016, BLACKPINK’s Jennie Kim has become a bona fide style icon, often providing beauty and fashion inspiration across campaigns, the stage, in the front row, and on Instagram. However, her fashion stardom truly reached new heights earlier this year when she made her runway debut at Jacquemus’s La Casa cruise show in Capri, Italy. Now, the star is opening up about the moment for the first time, calling it “a dream come true.”
In a video released to coincide with her new Harper’s Bazaar cover story, in which she opened up about her upcoming new solo music, Jennie took a trip down memory lane to revisit her most memorable looks to date, and she made sure to give her runway debut a shoutout, of course.
“First of all, this dress was everything,” Jennie said of the moment. “It was so perfectly fitted for my body and so gorgeous. Just, when I first saw it, I fell in love. When I put it on, I fell in love even more.”
“Simon [Porte Jacquemus] is just the best to work with,” Jennie continued. “He made sure that everything felt right, and everything felt me. When I look back at this photo or any of the videos, I’m like, ‘How did I do it?’ For a petite girl to walk a show means a lot, really.”
Jennie then went on to thank the designer once again. “I love you for making this dream come true for me, and I’ll never forget it,” she added.
In the actual interview, Jennie admitted that while she was more than thankful for the opportunity, she probably would not do it again. “I know the hard work that goes into it, so I would never do it for fun. Once was definitely enough,” she said.
Also in the interview, Jennie also opened up about her fashionable history, opening up about being an ambassador for Chanel during the Karl Lagerfeld era. “Just the fact that I got to talk to him, to have him see me wearing what he made — all of that was enough,” Jennie told the publication, adding she was “still very honored” about her ambassador appointment.
Jennie also opened up about her main fashion inspiration: Her mom. “She was Carrie from Sex and the City for me,” Jennie said of her mom, whose style she described as “classic.” She also admitted her mom, whose closet she still steals from to this date, is the person she’d call if she ever has a fashion emergency. “When I’m at the airport … I call my mom. ‘Mom, I need a knee-length black coat. If it’s Burberry, I’ll like it, but if not, that’s cool.’ She’ll bring me a perfect [outfit] from when she wore it like 30 years ago,” Jennie recounted.
