BLACKPINK may be one of the biggest groups in the world, but even they get starstruck. Vocalist Jisoo fondly remembers the experience of Taylor Swift dancing to their song at the MTV Video Music Awards in 2022.
“We attended our first American award show at the VMAs,” Jisoo shares in her Teen Vogue “Firsts” video interview, adding that the group was there both to perform and to support fellow member Lisa's award win. During their performance of “Pink Venom,” a clip went viral of none other than Taylor dancing to the song, which features a callback to her hit track “Look What You Made Me Do.”
“Seeing Taylor Swift, someone I listened to a lot growing up, dancing along to our music… I was like, ‘is this real life?'” Jisoo says. “That kind of feeling. For us it was inspiring and a great experience.”
Taylor continued the love further, posting a getting ready TikTok set to “Pink Venom” — and more recently, she played the song before her Eras Tour setlist began.
In the Teen Vogue video, Jisoo recounts her “first” experiences — first career dream, first concert (Christina Aguilera!), and first time meeting her bandmates. She also shares that despite her global fame, she doesn't actually get recognized so much by fans on the street.
“Even now, I don't get recognized that much,” the “How You Like That” musician says. “When I walk around, people aren't like, ‘Are you BLACKPINK’s Jisoo?' That rarely happens. So I just go about my day. There has never been an uncomfortable incident.”
Jisoo is currently promoting her first official solo music, a single album called ME with two new songs “Flowers" and “All Eyes on Me.” Meanwhile, BLACKPINK killed it at Coachella in their headlining set, cementing a powerful year for the group.
