BLACKPINK's Rosé is kicking off promotions for her upcoming solo album, rosie, and she's getting vulnerable about the inspiration behind some of the 12 tracks.
In a new cover interview with PAPER Magazine, Rosé confessed one of the tracks on rosie is actually influenced by her habit of reading hate comments online. Speaking to the publication, Rosé admitted to sometimes getting lost in “bad comments" that “get into [her] head” as she doom-scrolls at night.
Rather than letting them affect her silently, Rosé decided to take the comments in stride and use them as inspiration for a song. “I realized how vulnerable and addicted I was to this [online] world and that craving for feeling like I wanted to be loved and understood,” she said, adding that she “hated that about [herself]."
Rosé described the song as “disgustingly vulnerable and honest” and admitted the reason behind it was “so that people learn that I am a person that goes through these emotions.” She added: "If anything, it’s something I want to cover up. Even in interviews, I’m like, nothing really fazes me, you know? But it does. Every word, every comment, it crushes me.”
Rosé's rosie, slated for a December 6 release, is the singer's first solo project since the BLACKPINK members decided to leave long-time agency YG Entertainment for their solo endeavors. (Group activities will still be managed by YG, and, in fact, the quartet is expected to release new music and head on tour together next year.)
While Lisa, Jisoo, and Jennie decided to set up their own agencies for their solo projects, Rosé announced in June that she had decided to sign with YG subsidiary The Black Label for her solo ventures.
“This has been a year of drawing up a map and navigating to where I want to be and what I want to be doing going forward. It has been months of learning how to be an independent person for myself. Ultimately, I am happy to announce that I am officially working with [The Black Label] as my music management who will be managing my curriculum and helping me navigate towards achieving my dreams,” she said when she announced her decision.
In September, it was announced that Rosé had signed a worldwide deal with Atlantic Records to distribute her music. Ahead of rosie's release, Rosé released her first single from the album, “APT.” with fellow Atlantic Records musician Bruno Mars, on October 18, and it's since become an instant hit, climbing up charts and racking up streams. In fact, with the song, Rosé became the first-ever female Korean act to debut in the top 10 of Billboard's Hot 100 list.
