Blake Lively chose a very important dress for the New York City premiere of her new movie It Ends With Us. As soon as the actor stepped foot on the red carpet, Britney Spears fans everywhere gasped with recognition, as Lively was wearing the Versace S/S 2003 gown famously worn by Spears at Milan Fashion Week back in 2002.
The dress, a nude illusion gown covered in sparkling crystal floral and star-shaped beading in shades of blue, violet, dark magenta and green with an asymmetrical shoulder strap, is famous among Spears fans and was unearthed by Lively, who chose the dress to pay homage to the pop icon.
“Britney, us millennials all have a story of a moment or of years that you made us want to shine and inspire awe, with strength, [sic] and joy and immensely hard work," Lively wrote on Instagram Stories alongside a photo of Spears in the gown over 20 years ago. "Thank you for your example and your contribution to women telling their stories. So excited about your biopic and all you have to come.”
Lively styled the iconic dress with a pair of silver sandals, a handful of rings, and long, soft waves, plus short pearly nails and pinky-bronze makeup. While Spears hasn't responded to Lively wearing the dress, it's clear that the pop star means a lot to the actor and that wearing the dress was significant on multiple levels.
For the after-party, Lively swapped the Spears dress for a Barbiecore moment, stepping out in a corseted hot pink minidress with a ruffled, flouncy lace skirt and matching pink Christian Louboutin heels. Like the beaded gown, the pink dress was made by Versace, and Lively kept the party vibes going with dangling pink floral earrings, a silver cuff bracelet, and a sparkly pink mini bag—perfect for dancing the night away.
