Pat McGrath’s glass skin beauty looks for Maison Margiela’s spring-summer 2024 show at Paris Haute Couture Week are taking over the internet by storm — so much so that some are even daring to recreate the high-fashion makeup.
In case you’ve been living under a rock or don’t necessarily partake in beauty talk, allow us to give you a little recap. Last week, for the French luxury fashion label’s show, McGrath and her team painted the models’ faces with heavy blush, thin brows, and, most notably, a shiny base that tied the whole look together to be reminiscent of a porcelain doll.
On the runway, the glossy finish turned heads, but what really sent the internet into a spiral were videos of the models peeling off their makeup after the show. Celebs, models, and beauty influencers alike were in awe, and understandably so, because the looks are mesmerizing.

Also understandably, everyone is eager to know how the team achieved such a look. In a press release, Pat McGrath Labs revealed that the products used to achieve the glass-like look were Divine Skin: Rose 001™ The Essence topped with Sublime Perfection Foundation. To achieve the quasi-waxy shiny finish, the team airbrushed a layer of a “hyper-shiny glaze,” which many believe is Kyrolan’s Liquid Glass, on top of the finished look, which explains why the models could peel it all off so effortlessly.
Now that the secret has been almost unveiled, everyone is trying to recreate the look at home. However, some content creators who didn’t have the products at hand have been desperately searching for an alternative to try it out for themselves. Beauty influencer and founder of Sacheu Beauty Sarah Cheung used a sample from one of her brand's upcoming products that’s said to be coming soon, and the result looked pretty similar to the original.

Others have found convenient solutions to get the gloss look at home — including one product you might already have on your beauty shelf. Instagram user taontm shared a video recreating the Pat McGrath glass skin look with just a brush and a peel-off gel face mask. (While the name of the product isn't disclosed in the video, it looks like it might be the Freeman Renewing Cucumber Peel-Off Gel Facial Mask based off the packaging.)

However, other users haven’t had as much luck. While James Charles managed to snag up a bottle of the Kyrolan Liquid Glass before it sold out, his attempt to recreate the look with it wasn’t as flawless — and his airbrush broke in the process.

Beauty influencer Niko Haagenson skipped the airbrush, opting to apply the Skin Illustrator Clear Gloss straight to the face with a brush instead. While Haagenson found that initial results were on par with McGrath's, the base began to crack and peel on its own after a few hours of wear.
