Boygenius used their Grammys 2024 red carpet look to advocate for a ceasefire in Gaza.
The alternative music group comprised of Phoebe Bridgers, Lucy Dacus, and Julien Baker arrived on the carpet in coordinated ivory white suits from Thom Browne. The trio committed to matching with collared button-down shirts, black ties, black dress shoes and pink carnations. They finished off their look with red pins that stated “artists for ceasefire."
Artists for Ceasefire is a collective of musicians, actors and advocates who have come together in response to the humanitarian crisis unfolding in Gaza. Many artists over the last few months have candidly used their voice to call for a ceasefire in the Gaza Strip. Some artists like Kehlani, Dua Lipa, and Yara Shahidi have also signed a letter demanding President Biden stand against Israel's bombing of Gaza and facilitate the safe release of hostages. Historically, the red carpet has been used as an opportunity to make a statement, whether sartorial or political.
Boygenius paid tribute to many different things on the Grammy's red carpet tonight. "We're going for prom. We're going for sweet boyf," Baker said during their red carpet interview with E! News. The group also highlighted that their white suits and pink carnations were a reference to their song “We're In Love” and Elliott Smith.
It’s a huge night for the supergroup, because their debut album, The Record, received a total of seven nominations. The LP was nominated in the categories for Album of the Year, Best Engineered Album, Non-Classical, and Best Alternative Music Album. The group got nods in the categories for Record of the Year, Best Rock Performance, and Best Rock Song (“Not Strong Enough”). They also received a nom for Best Alternative Music Performance (“Cool About It”). They've already taken the win for Best Rock Performance and Song, and Alternative Music Album, and their fanbase is hoping for a sweep.
