When Black Lives Matter protesters say “no justice, no peace,” they mean it. After the world learned last week that no police officers would be directly charged for fatally shooting Breonna Taylor in her Louisville, Kentucky home, a new wave of protests unfurled across the country. Demonstrators fed up with the lack of accountability for police violence held rallies, marches, and candlelight vigils. They blocked highways and called for the abolition of police.
In New York City, photographer Andy Jackson attended several of these events for Teen Vogue, capturing scenes of the crowds. He stopped by a Harlem rally hosted by Black Lives Matter of Greater New York and City Council candidate Kristin Richardson Jordan. He visited a “Blerds for Breonna & Food For All-End Food Insecurity" event and rally for Taylor held by Blerd City, “a black nerds association,” Geeks 4 Justice, and Jay Nelly Belly Vegan Cuisine, in collaboration with the Black Women Collective, Protect Black Girls and Women, the ABC Team, and Rara for Reform. Jackson also attended a vigil in honor of Black lives in Brooklyn's Maria Hernandez Park. We shared a selection of his photos below.
