The large, ensemble cast of the hit Netflix historical drama series Bridgerton is star-studded and truly beloved — but there's only a handful of universal fan-favorite characters like Queen Charlotte. If you've ever caught yourself mid-episode dreaming up an imaginary world that explores Queen Charlotte's backstory, then your manifestation powers are unmatched. Netflix is soon set to release a limited series titled Queen Charlotte: A Bridgerton Story, a prequel spin-off to the original show.

The spinoff was first announced in May 2021, and will be written by Shonda Rhimes, who will also serve as showrunner. Per The Hollywood Reporter, the limited series will consist of six episodes and focus on a younger version of Charlotte while also weaving in storylines featuring young Violet Bridgerton and young Lady Danbury.
On February 14, 2023, Netflix hosted a special virtual sneak peek global event for the series. During this event, the streamer revealed the official teaser trailer and exclusive never-before-seen clips, while also holding a live moderated Q&A featuring Rhimes and the main cast. The actors discussed how their new show relates to the entire Bridgerton universe, how they drew inspiration for their characters, and what fans could expect from the series in terms of plot and themes.
“Fans can look forward to some really exciting moments, some really romantic moments, and some really surprising moments,” said Rhimes during the event, teasing that these moments would fill out the world of the Ton in “ways we've never seen before.” We are so ready!

Is there a trailer for Queen Charlotte?
Yes! The first official trailer for Queen Charlotte: A Bridgerton Story was released on March 23, 2023, exactly six weeks ahead of the show's debut on Netflix. With the nearly three-minute trailer, we finally get to meet our newest young royal.
The trailer opens with a question: “Why me?” Charlotte is en route through the countryside of England, riding in a carriage with her brother Adolphus. She's visibly frustrated, to which Adolphus can only reply, “Charlotte, there are worse things than marrying the King of England.”
As more slivers of Charlotte's journey are revealed, we quickly see both the glamour and suffocating pressure of her new life meshing together. She's demanded to “have as many babies as possible,” scolded at every turn, and harshly reminded that marrying King George was never about romance, but national security. “It is time we were united as a society," says Princess Augusta, George's mother. "Your marriage cannot go wrong.”
Despite it all, George and Charlotte turn what was supposed to be a transactional marriage into a whirlwind fairytale romance. It's not an easy road — “My life as queen was difficult,” says Golda Rosheuvel as the older version of Queen Charlotte — but one they are determined to face together.
“I want to fight with you. Fight with me. Fight for me,” Young Charlotte passionately says to George. (I'm not swooning, you are.) Through more snippets, we see a love story, a story about defying expectations, and a story about change begin to unfold before our eyes.
Prior to releasing the official teaser trailer, Netflix also dropped an exclusive clip of an important scene in September 2022. In the full scene, which is featured a bit in the trailer above, we see Queen Charlotte and King George III's irresistibly swoon-worthy meet-cute. (It's the flirty, British banter for us.)
Who is in the cast of Queen Charlotte?

Other confirmed cast members include Hugh Sachs as Brimsley, the Queen's secretary, Sam Clemmett as young Brimsley, Michelle Fairley as Princess Augusta, King George's overbearing mother, Cyril Nri as Lord Danbury, Richard Cunningham as Lord Bute, Neil Edmond as Earl Harcourt, Tunji Kasim as Charlotte's brother Adolphus, Freddie Dennis as Reynolds, Rob Maloney as the Royal Doctor, and Katie Brayben as Vivian Ledger and Keir Charles as Lord Ledger, Violet's parents.

As previously mentioned, Netflix has also shared that young Charlotte's storyline will be told alongside the storylines of young versions of Violet Bridgerton and Lady Danbury.
