The Emo Girl renaissance is alive and well, and Cardi B is joining the movement. In a post to Twitter on March 15, the “Up" rapper showed some love to pop-punk band My Chemical Romance, revealing herself to be an emo stan.
“They don't make music like this anymore,” Cardi wrote, sharing a clip from My Chemical Romance's music video for their hit 2004 single “I'm Not Okay (I Promise)," from their sophomore album Three Cheers for Sweet Revenge.

Fans reacted almost instantly, sharing photoshopped pictures of Cardi wearing popular emo hairstyles and singing in My Chemical Romance frontman Gerard Way's place, and even asking the rapper with eye emojis, “Cardi are you about to be in your emo era?” One can only hope.
Many online saw the megastar rapper's praise for the band as surprising or random, but if there's one artist to never put in a box, it's Cardi B. The band spotted her tweet a few hours later, and replied to Cardi from their official account, thanking the rapper for the appreciation in Italian: “Grazie mille Cardi!”

My Chemical Romance is currently gearing up to perform on their 2022 reunion tour, after splitting up in 2013 and joining forces once again in 2019. The band will headline the pop-punk-centric music festival When We Were Young in Las Vegas this October, alongside other emo household names like fellow headliner Paramore, Avril Lavigne, and Taking Back Sunday.
Meanwhile, Cardi's fans are actively anticipating the rapper's follow-up to her 2018 debut studio album Invasion of Privacy. With another emo revival in full swing, maybe Cardi will have an unexpected feature from Willow, Machine Gun Kelly… or even My Chemical Romance.
