Since its premiere in 2022, Chainsaw Man has made waves among anime fans as one of the buzziest titles in streaming. An adaptation of Tatsuki Fujimoto's shōnen manga of the same, the show follows the story of Denji, a teenager who, after his father dies, is struggling to pay off a massive debt.
With the help of his rescued Chainsaw Devil dog Pochita, Denji finds his groove working as a Devil Hunter for the yakuza until, one night, the yakuza betray him and he is killed by a Zombie Devil. To save Denji, Pochita sacrifices himself and merges with his owner, transforming Denji into Chainsaw Man, the human-devil hybrid character we follow throughout season one as he becomes a government-certified Devil Hunter working in Public Safety.
Produced and animated by MAPPA, the same animation studio behind the uber-popular Jujutsu Kaisen, season one of Chainsaw Man was broadcast from October to December 2022. What's next for Chainsaw Man? When is Chainsaw Man coming back?
While many anticipated a season 2, MAPPA announced in December 2023 that Chainsaw Man would return with a movie. The studio announced Chainsaw Man – The Movie: Reze Arc at the 2024 Jump Festa. The same staff from the anime series has reportedly worked on the project, with Tatsuya Yoshihara taking on the role of director. (Yoshihara also directed two episodes of the anime's first season.) Hiroshi Seko wrote the screenplay based on Tatsuki Fujimoto's original story.

What is Chainsaw Man – The Movie: Reze Arc about?
As its title suggests, Chainsaw Man – The Movie: Reze Arc will focus on the Reze Arc of the manga. The Reze Arc is part of the Public Safety Saga of Chainsaw Man, a.k.a. the first chapter in the series, and as such, will pick up from where season one left off. The first season of the show adapted the first four arcs of the saga, ending to coincide with Chapter 38.
In the manga, the Reze Arc begins in Chapter 39 and centers on a girl named Reze. Reze, who's voiced by Reina Ueda in the movie, actually had a small cameo in the last episode of season one, teasing her bigger role in the next chapter. Reze first appears as Denji's new romantic interest — but he soon finds out she's after more than it initially seems.
To coincide with the movie's announcement, MAPPA released the first teaser for Chainsaw Man – The Movie: Reze Arc in December 2023. The teaser, which you can watch above, gives us a glimpse into Denji and Reze's relationship.

There is, indeed. MAPPA put out the full official trailer for Chainsaw Man – The Movie: Reze Arc in July 2025. The trailer, which you can watch below, is set to a new theme song, “Iris Out,” sung by Kenshi Yonezu, who also sings “Kick Back,” the opening for the anime's first season. In the trailer, we see Denji torn between Reze and Makima as chaos ensues.
Previously, MAPPA had put out a second teaser for Chainsaw Man – The Movie: Reze Arc in December 2024, which served as the movie's first proper trailer. The trailer begins with Reze asking Denji a mouse question, mirroring her cameo in the last scenes of season one. We then see Makima asking Denji out on a date, to his rejoice. Torn between the two, the teaser then completely changes, teasing more action and chaos. You can watch it for yourself, with English subtitles, below.
When is Chainsaw Man – The Movie: Reze Arc coming out?
Chainsaw Man – The Movie: Reze Arc will premiere theatrically on October 24, 2025, in the US, days before its originally scheduled October 29 release. The movie premiered first domestically in Japan on September 19, 2025, before making its way to the rest of the world. International screenings began on September 24. Premieres globally are scheduled for different dates, so if you are outside of the US, check out your local listings for specifics.
Much like other anime movies, you can expect Chainsaw Man – The Movie: Reze Arc to have a theatrical run only before eventually making its way to streaming.

Will we get Chainsaw Man season 2 after Chainsaw Man – The Movie: Reze Arc?
At the time of writing, MAPPA has not announced Chainsaw Man season 2 — however, there are rumors that a new season could be in production already — but watch this space for official announcements after the movie's premiere.
The Reze Arc in the manga spans 13 chapters, which we can assume would be covered by the movie, but there are still three more arcs in the Public Safety Saga, which could be adapted into a potential sophomore season — whether that season will be referred to as Chainsaw Man season 2 or Chainsaw Man season 3 (or something completely different altogether) remains to be seen.
