Since her debut, Chappell Roan has been cementing her pop girl princess status, and she's just reached a new level with the all-time icon marker: self-reference.
Chappell Roan started the year by opening for Olivia Rodrigo's GUTS world tour. Since then, she's already played Coachella, Gov's Ball, Boston Calling, Kentuckiana Pride, Lollapalooza, Osheaga, Hinterland, and, more recently, Outside Lands, where she hid a nod to herself in her costuming.
Roan performed at Outside Lands in San Francisco on August 11, wearing the exact 'fit from her "Hot to Go" music video to celebrate the song's first anniversary.
Of course, Roan's concert outfits have each been nothing short of fashion statements. Her onstage persona, heavily drag-inspired, is known (and celebrated) for including campy theatrics and expressing herself beyond song via her fashionable homages.
Roan previously told coup de main magazine that she wrote "Hot to Go," which came complete with YMCA-style choreography, so she could "live out [her] cheerleader fantasy." Fittingly, in the song's music video, Roan rocked a blue sequin leotard with sequin-y stars, a golden belt, and gold epaulets.
The 'fit was giving cheer, band, and dance vibes all at once. For the one-year anniversary of the song at Outside Lands, the pop sensation wore the same blue leotard from her music video on stage with fishnet tight and golden shimmery knee-high boots (instead of the white one from the video) while encouraging fans to engage in the song's designated arm movements.
Roan's The Midwest Princess Tour is far from done. The star is headed to Europe in late August before returning to the U.S. in the fall, so we expect more fashionable homages.
