Chappell Roan's pop stardom continues to reach new heights after reportedly becoming the artist with potentially the largest crowd ever at Chicago's famed festival Lollapalooza.
As reported by CNN and according to a spokesperson for Lollapalooza, "Chappell's performance was the biggest daytime set we've ever seen. It was a magical moment added to Lolla's DNA."

Roan performed on Lollapalooza's main stage on August 1, 2024, at Chicago's Grant Park, putting on a wrestling-themed show complete with her own custom kit, dressed by stylist Genesis Webb. Though the crowd size spoke for itself, according to Rolling Stone, Roan was originally slated to perform on a smaller stage at an earlier time and was moved due to increasing fan demand. She ultimately swapped set times with Kesha, a representative for Lollapalooza told CNN.
This marks the second time Roan has moved festival stages to accommodate a bigger crowd this summer alone. Back in June, Roan also had to be moved to a bigger stage while performing at Bonnaroo Music Festival in Tennessee. She also previously drew an unexpectedly large crowd during New York City's Governor's Ball.
While the exact number of attendees at Roan's Lollapalooza set has not been disclosed, Roan's crowd is believed to be the biggest in the festival's history, including its international editions in Chile, Brazil, Argentina, Germany, Sweden, France, and India. Overall, 110,000 people attended the Chicago edition of the festival this year.
Roan was admittedly touched by the scale of the crowd and took to social media to thank attendees for her support, admitting she was brought to tears while walking on stage. "I was crying as I walked on stage at @lollapalooza because of the overwhelm of support. Thank you thank you thank you 🩵🩷 I will remember this forever," the star wrote on Instagram.
Roan has been on the road across multiple festivals this year, as well as her own tour. The musician kicked off the year opening for Olivia Rodrigo's GUTS world tour before pulling out early to focus on her solo shows. Since then, she's released her hit single "Good Luck, Babe!" and played Coachella, Gov's Ball, Boston Calling, Kentuckiana Pride, Lollapalooza, Osheaga, Hinterland, and more. She's next expected to perform at Outside Lands at San Francisco's Golden Gate Park on August 11, 2024, where she is not (yet) scheduled as a headliner.
Roan will head off to Europe for another leg of her The Midwest Princess Tour, which will start in late August. Her festival run will continue well into the fall with Superbloom in Germany, All Things Go, and Austin City Limits, so we'll be on the lookout for more record-breaking crowds.
