Chappell Roan has quickly solidified herself as a superstar pop artist and a fashion icon whose custom looks have become part of her dazzling allure. Such was the case this week as she debuted a multi-layered latex and leather ensemble for nights three and four of her sold-out shows in New York City.
Roan took the stage at Forrest Hills Stadium in Queens on September 23 and 24, adorned in a floor-length, flesh-colored latex cape and robe with a blood-red trim and veil that mimicked lace — made by designer and latex expert Monique Fei. Roan began the show wearing the robe and dancing around the stage with her long, nearly-brunette hair flowing down her back. At one point, she took off the latex robe and unveiled part two of the outfit: a high-neck playsuit with a cutout detail and ruffled belt.
The outfit was right in line with her mini-tour theme — Visions of Damsels & Other Dangerous Things — which has featured a haunted castle backdrop and deep fantasy themes.

Fei worked with Roan's stylist Genesis Webb to create the pieces — which the designer said took nearly 700 hours to create. In an Instagram post about creating Roan's on-stage look, Fei wrote that “it was nonstop” between getting the initial pitch to seeing the fully-realized creation on stage. The designer also shared several behind-the-scenes photos creating the latex lace, along with the final silhouette of the robe.

But Roan wasn't done after just two outfit changes. The “Subway” singer finished out her set with another custom-made outfit — this time, a three-piece leather ensemble from the brand Whitaker Malem. Keeping with the lace design theme, the bra, corset, and bottoms featured a coordinating beige and brown lace effect, along with actual laces going up the front and back. The outfit also came with matching leather arm cuffs.

Chappell Roan has credited her unique style to emulating drag queens, with dramatic makeup and hair looks, along with gorgeous custom-made outfits. Whether she's wearing vintage John Paul Gaultier couture on the red carpet, or leaning into gothic vampire fantasy at a music festival — her outfits are nothing short of pure artistry.
