Early Y2K style is making a comeback (re: Bayonetta glasses and tramp stamps), and now entering the chat is none other than the culottes trend.

Almost resembling a skirt, culottes are a loose, baggy pant that typically hit around the knees or calves. Culottes are a bit of an unusual and even divisive style — some view them as wide-legged capris, while others go as far as to say they’re a pant-skirt hybrid.

Regardless of your take on what they are, there’s no denying that culottes have been in and out of vogue for years. Effortless, billowy, and chic, culottes reigned as a fashion classic in the late ’90s and early 2000s — and now, celebrities and influencers are making culottes cool again.

At the Inside Out 2 Los Angeles premiere, Ayo Edebiri turned heads in a custom Bottega Veneta mint green ensemble featuring — you guessed it — culottes. The Bear actress finished off her red-carpet look with an elegant grain de poudre blazer and black mules.

Part of what makes culottes fun are all the endless styling possibilities — dressed up or down, you really can’t go wrong. Billie Eilish put her own casual twist on the trend with an all-black outfit, a silk scarf, tinted yellow sunnies, and a pair of shiny loafers.

On Instagram, TXT member Yeonjun opted for an even more laid back vibe in black culottes, a lavender cardigan, and high-top Converse while jamming out with his bandmates against the San Francisco skyline.

Selena Gomez even took the culottes trend international, sporting a gray pair in Paris with an oversized blazer, robin’s egg blue pumps, and a nod to the underwear-as-outerwear trend. Trés chic!

Albeit controversial, I’m all here for culottes summer (sorry, tomato girl summer). Worn with sneakers or heels or gussied up or toned down, culottes will never really go out of style. If you don’t already have a pair in the back of your closet and want to try out the trend this season, too, find Teen Vogue’s picks below:
