Does the Euphoria Cast Even Want Season 3? Here’s How They Feel

We've compiled everything the actors have said about the show's hiatus and potential return to gauge their feelings about season 3, which… is still in limbo.

Will Euphoria season 3 ever actually happen? It’s the million-dollar question, and not even the cast is 100% sure anymore. After season 2 ended in early 2022, Euphoria was immediately renewed at HBO, but more than two years later, fans are still waiting — and it looks like they'll be waiting for quite a while.

Back in March 2024, HBO confirmed Euphoria season 3 had been delayed indefinitely and that, as a result, they would be “allowing the in-demand cast to pursue other opportunities.” Later that summer, HBO confirmed Euphoria season 3 would begin production in January 2025 with the entire main cast set to return. And though HBO is still hopeful the show will get a 2025 release, the rest of the world isn’t as convinced.

At first, delays affecting Euphoria season 3 were pinned on the simultaneous Hollywood strikes. But long after the WGA and SAG-AFTRA reached agreements, there still seems to be no finalized scripts for season 3.

According to an exclusive report by Variety published in March 2024, “No one at HBO is at all sure a third season of Euphoria will ever come to fruition given the disparate visions for the show’s next chapter.” Zendaya reportedly didn’t like Sam Levinson’s original script for the season, which seemed to center heavily on Nate and Cassie, and the show also had to undergo rewrites to navigate Angus Cloud’s death. (Other rejected script variants included Rue working as a private detective and sober twentysomething Rue becoming a pregnancy surrogate.)

Despite the proposed production start date for season 3 growing near, news has continued to break of main cast members accepting other time-consuming, high-profile projects — like Zendaya joining Tom Holland in Christopher Nolan's next film, and Jacob Elordi joining Margot Robbie in Emerald Fennell's adaptation of Wuthering Heights. HBO shut down rumors that the third season was quietly cancelled on November 8, 2024 in a statement to The Independent: “Euphoria is going into production in 2025. Nothing has changed."

And while that might be true… how are the actors feeling about filming season 3 more than three years after the last episode aired? To answer that question, we have compiled everything the main Euphoria cast has said about season 3 below.

In her latest interview for Vanity Fair's 2025 Hollywood Issue on November 13, Zendaya remained as diplomatic as ever about the future of Euphoria. When asked where she stands with the show and creator Sam Levinson, Zendaya said that the crew could be returning to the set as soon as January, but she hasn't seen any scripts.

“I haven’t read anything yet, but I’m excited to see what everyone has been working on, and what the future looks like for Euphoria,” the actor shared. “I don’t really have much of an answer except for right now it’s set to start shooting in January.”

Regardless of when the third installment begins, Zendaya says she has one priority when it comes to Euphoria: Rue. “My most important thing is to do justice by the people who love and care about Rue, and make sure that she’s looked after as a character," she said. “I think that’s my number one duty.”

While appearing on Entertainment Weekly‘s The Awards podcast on October 3, 2024, Zendaya confirmed that “the time jump is happening" in season three, but couldn't reveal much more about the plot beyond that. “It’s important because there’s only so much high school drama you can deal with. 'And then she cheats on her boyfriend again!'” the actor joked.

“It will be fascinating to see and understand these characters outside of the context of high school and how all the stuff that we saw when they were kids and they were in high school affects the adulthood they have and who they become in a much bigger world. I’ll be interested to see what happens too,” Zendaya continued.

Before HBO confirmed the January filming start date, in April 2024 Zendaya told Variety at the L.A. premiere of Challengers that she’d be down to film season 3 of Euphoria only “if it's right for the characters and everything turns out the way it should.” Though she also serves as an executive producer on the hit HBO series, she said that the future of season 3 is “beyond her,” likely implying it's all dependent on the script rewrites.

Jacob Elordi was one of the first actors in the Euphoria cast to address the hiatus. Appearing on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon in January 2024, the star was asked whether filming would resume soon, to which he jokingly responded: “I don’t know, do you know?”

Elordi continued saying he hoped filming would start “soon” before joking that otherwise “they’re going to have to Benjamin Button me or something. I’m going to have a bad back walking down the hallway, you know?” In the same interview, Elordi also revealed he was pro-time jump, saying, “I’m assuming that we’ll have to go forward. Otherwise, it’s going to seem like a weird bit.”

Sydney Sweeney

Out of all the Euphoria actors, Sydney Sweeney has been the only one who has ever claimed to be close to filming season 3 of Euphoria. In March 2024, in between promotions for Madame Web and Immaculate, Sweeney implied Euphoria season 3 would start filming soon while speaking to MTV at SXSW in Austin, Texas. When asked if she was planning to take a break after her hectic press run, the actor implied she had no time, saying: “I go into Euphoria.” And, well, that was before the show was put on pause indefinitely.

Speaking to Who What Wear the same month, Sweeney said she actually liked having extra time between seasons 2 and 3. “I actually like it because there's so much room for growth for both me as a person and also Cassie as a character," she said. She also teased Cassie’s arc was “going to be very, very wild." But then again, scripts were not finalized at the time of her comment or this writing.

Speaking to Variety, Hunter Schafer opened up about Euphoria season 3 at the GQ Global Creativity Awards in April 2024. While the star remained cryptic about timelines and arcs, she said she was "really excited" to go back to set if given the opportunity.

"I just really miss everybody. Everyone is doing very well in their careers right now," Schafer told the publication. "Everyone's kind of blown up, and so with that comes people traveling a lot. Whatever happens, I'm just excited to get back together once it's time and catch up and hang out."

Schafer also shared her hopes for her character if season 3 does ever go ahead: "The past two seasons have been pretty rough on Jules, so I just hope she's gotten to chill out and be a regular teenage girl."

Storm Reid

Also at the L.A. premiere of Challengers, Storm Reid, who plays Zendaya’s younger sister on Euphoria, addressed the series being in limbo, adding that "hopefully" they can return for season 3. "We're on pause right now, but we're anxious to get back," Reid told E! News. "If it's meant to be, we'll be back soon, and we'll give the audience what they want and deserve."

Storm added: "People being so anxious [about season 3 happening] is a testament to the support and how much people love the stories and the show itself. So, I mean, you just gotta be patient."

Colman Domingo

In February 2024, before the hiatus was made public, Colman Domingo opened up about season 3 of Euphoria to Vanity Fair. Domingo shared that season 3 had gone through multiple rewrites to navigate Angus Cloud’s death, as his character Fezco “Fez” O'Neill was going to be a big part of the original storyline for the season. He also briefly touched upon the death of Kevin Turen, one of the main producers of the series.

“I know that Sam is conscious of [the losses we’ve had], and so I think it really helps to reexamine the work,” Domingo shared. “We need to always not just ride on our laurels of, ‘Oh, we’ve had a hit show. We’ve won Emmys,’ stuff like that. But he’s always wanting to redefine and say, ‘Why are we doing this? Why? Like really.’ And I think it’s a great question. Why exactly are we doing this?”

“Why exactly are we doing this?” might have turned into “Are we even doing this?” given the more recent news regarding Euphoria, but back then, Domingo confirmed season 3 was indeed happening and that he would be part of it.

Nika King

In March 2024, actor Nika King, who plays Zendaya’s mother in Euphoria, poked fun at the filming delays during a stand-up set. "Don't ask me [when season 3 is coming out]. I don't f*cking know," she said in footage from the show posted on her TikTok account. "People are like, 'We need season 3,' and I'm like, b*tch, I need season 3! I haven’t paid my rent in six months."

Dominic Fike

Right when the show ended, in February 2022, musician and actor Dominic Fike publicly said his character Elliot would “absolutely” be part of season 3 during an appearance on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon. However, in January 2024, he opened up about his potential return to the show, and he wasn’t so sure — not because of the hiatus but because he was almost “kicked off” due to the complicated circumstances of his sobriety during season 2. “[It] would be dope [to return for season 3, but] I don’t really talk to them anymore,” Fike said about his relationship with HBO.
