Doja Cat just threw it waaaaay back to the 2000s on the red carpet. The musician attended the Victoria's Secret World Tour 2023 in New York City wearing a slinky slip dress with an exposed G-string detail.
Doja, who is the headliner for the tour, donned a low-cut black V-neck gown with delicate spaghetti straps and a train for the event. At first glance, it looked like a classic little black slip dress, but when she turned around, a series of straps at her lower back created the illusion of an exposed thong. If you zoom in, you'll see it's not actually underwear, it but it definitely looks like it!
The exposed thong trend has been a fave of celebs for a few years, given the resurgence of all things ‘90s and Y2K. Bella Hadid has experimented with the peekaboo style many times before, as has Dua Lipa; Hailey Bieber even wore a whale tail dress on the Met Gala red carpet in 2019, so this throwback trend has staying power even for the most formal occasions.
Doja Cat styled her LBD with a diamond collar necklace and lots of earrings, a very 2000s-esque pair of sunglasses and her ever-growing collection of tattoos, namely the enormous bat skeleton across her back. Though her shoes were mostly hidden by the train of the gown, she wore a sleek pair of pointed toe kitten heel mules. Her makeup, too, served up the Y2K vibes with frosty, silvery blue shadow applied all the way up to her bleached brows, lots of black liner on the top and lower lashlines and lined lips. Honestly, if you told me this photo was taken in 2004, I'd believe you. The Victoria's Secret Tour event premieres on Prime on September 26 and I will absolutely be watching just to see what Doja's wearing.

Allegedly said gown was not as comfortable as it seemed! In a series of now-deleted Instagram Stories, Doja described a dress that did include a built-in panty, but it seems like it wasn't the most fun to wear. Doja didn't specify who made the dress, but it seems her followers suspect her posts were in reference to the dress she wore the previous night based on their descriptions and timing.
The panty was just one problem in a series of issues with said slip dress, according to Doja's Instagram Stories. "When i tell u the panty was built into the dress so when i put it on, the shoulder straps pulled the string up through my cervix and split me like a block of sharp cheddar cheese," the musician wrote on Instagram, as noted by Insider.
The straps seemed to have posed the biggest problem for Doja, leaving the star feeling exposed and uncomfortable. "It's crazy when you got a dress on and your whole vagina is out the whole night and the straps on the dress pull ur tits all the way down to your knees and all you asked for was a slip dress but i digress," she shared. However, Doja did have fun aside from her wardrobe malfunctions. “What a beautiful night MINUS them UNADJUSTABLE straps,” she wrote in her Story, though she did close her tale by saying she'd be “feeding [the dress] to the moths.”
