Dua Lipa is celebrating the success of her hit single from the Barbie movie by sharing some very important behind-the-scenes footage.
The singer shared an Instagram post on Saturday announcing that her single “Dance the Night” had reached the top 5 in the U.K. The track was created with superstar producer Mark Ronson, who executive produced the entire star-studded Barbie soundtrack.
“Dance the Night” became the background song for the big dance number that takes place in the first part of the film and features all the Barbies and Kens grooving to a choreographed dance.
“The first thing I saw from the Barbie movie when [Mark Ronson] asked me to write the song for the big dance scene in the film was the cast dance rehearsals,” Lipa wrote in the Instagram caption. “We then set off with the plan to write a song based on Barbie’s inner thoughts in that very moment on the basis of what was to come next in her story and on the premise of the whole film.”
The video compilation Lipa posted showed cast members including Margot Robbie and Ryan Gosling rehearsing their dance scenes cut with the final footage from the film. Lipa also tagged Andrew Wyatt and Caroline Ailin, who are credited as co-writers of the song alongside Ronson and Lipa.
“The song no longer felt like it belonged to me but belonged to Barbie and her perfect/imperfect self,” Lipa continued. “I’m so grateful to all of you dancing at home with us and for Greta and Mark for trusting me with this task!!!”

The film's soundtrack, Barbie: The Album, is packed with the biggest hitmakers including Lizzo, Charli XCX, Billie Eilish, Nicki Minaj, Ice Spice, and more. Lipa's song has become the most-listened song from the album on Spotify, with more than 139 million streams. The second-most listened song is “Barbie World” by Nicki Minaj and Ice Spice, which samples the Aqua hit song of the same name from 1997.
Lipa has blessed fans with other BTS from the movie — including a mirror selfie taken with (almost) the entire cast at their Los Angeles premiere.
The Barbie movie is continuing its box office domination in North America and is expected to bring in around $350 million by Sunday — only its second weekend in theaters. Globally, the movie is on track to rake in $750 million by Sunday, according to The Hollywood Reporter.
