Florence Pugh isn't letting the sheer trend slip away because we're heading into a new season. The actor loves a sheer dress, and the one she wore for the ELLE Style Awards in London on September 5 is the perfect way to transition from the sunny days of summer to the crisp and ever-changing climate of fall.
Pugh's latest sheer look comes courtesy Alexander McQueen, and it's yet another gorgeous addition to Pugh's sheer dress hall of fame. At first glance, the gown feels a bit bridal, but the sleek, severe halter neckline and translucent, body-hugging mesh covered in floral lace applique give it a punky edge, something the actor is always drawn to in her red carpet ‘fits. Pugh’s styling, too, kept it from looking like a wedding dress; she wore her short blonde hair in gelled-up spikes with just a hint of darker, grown-in roots and slipped on a handful of structural pearl earrings up each ear. Pugh kept her makeup glowy and radiant with a bronze eye and petal pink lip, and a bright cobalt blue manicure was a fun, cheeky and unexpected touch against the fairy-like gown.
The sheer trend shows absolutely zero signs of slowing down for fall, and Pugh is all about it. Most recently, the Oppenheimer star wore a see-through lime bodysuit for a festival, and prior to that, she shut down the Valentino Haute Couture fall-winter 2023/2024 show in a lighter-than-air periwinkle gown from the fashion house. And she's not alone! Fellow celebs like Vanessa Hudgens, Ciara and Dua Lipa have all put their stamp on sheer; Lipa loves the see-through look so much she even wore sheer boots.
If you're ready to take your sheer pieces into the fall, why not follow Pugh's example and mix things up with a touch of floral to transition out of the summer mindset or take a cue from Sabrina Carpenter and pair them with chunky boots for a night out? Sheer may be intimidating at first, but it's super versatile and so much fun to layer with. And what better time for some major layering action than the first chilly days of fall?
