Ganni is back at it again with another iconic collaboration. Earlier this month, the Danish fashion brand announced a 19-piece collection with LVMH prize finalist Priya Ahluwalia's eponymous label Ahluwalia and it's finally here.
This is the first time Ahluwalia has worked on womenswear and trust us when we say it's good. The two brands have joined forces to create a collection that puts circularity first. All items are designed using reworked fabric from deadstock fabric and unsold pieces from their 2020 productions. The concept behind the collection was to create something magical from the hardships of the pandemic. Both designers have a history of designing responsibly, as evidenced with recent moves like Ganni's sustainable denim collection with Levi's. Ahluwalia also has a long-standing dedication to repurposing deadstock fabric, which has been adopted as a part of the brand's core DNA.
“When she started out creating, her main dogma was that she wanted to work with existing clothes and fabrics. The reworking of our past-season prints is so beautiful and fresh. I love the unexpected patchwork patterns. It’s a complete print remix,” Ganni's creative director Ditte Reffstrup explained in a statement. “When I started my research for the collection, I thought about both GANNI’s and my own love of a good party," Ahluwalia added. "I looked at photography from the UK Garage scene as well as photos from my own personal history and culture and wanted to create clothing that women will feel sexy and strong in whilst on the dancefloor, whether at a club or at home.”
With inspiring, pieced-together skirts and Ganni's iconic leopard prints, these are the outfits we can't wait to wear when we step out of quarantine. Launching in two parts, the first collection drops today, April 23, while the second will drop sometime in fall 2021. Ahluwalia's Indian-Nigerian dual heritage combined with Ganni's Scandinavian 2.0 style forms a perfect harmony of interesting and unique dresses, jumpsuits, jackets, two-piece sets, and shirts.
