Generra has always had its own unique take on the T-shirt. In the eighties, its Hypercolor tops (which changed color with the temperature) were all the rage, and in 2004, when the label relaunched, girls everywhere clamored for the Second Skin tees. Most recently, creative director Pina Ferlisi has turned the humble closet staple into a full-fledged runway collection. Ferlisi, a Gap and Marc by Marc Jacobs alum, certainly has had a lot of experience giving basics the high-fashion treatment. At Generra for almost two years now, she has translated the effortless feel of the label's comfy, coveted shirts into hip cotton dresses and sporty tanks, as well as chicer items, like high-gloss shifts and shrunken leather jackets. "The Generra girl is very stylish and multilayered," says Ferlisi. Sounds like she's got her customer down to a tee. —EVONNE GAMBRELL
