Awards season is nearly upon us and plenty of our favorite actors have just received one seriously awesome early Christmas (Hannukah?) gift. The Golden Globes nominations were announced this morning and — no surprise here — but Jennifer Lawrence certainly lived up to her 'girl on fire' moniker. Not only did her flick Joy get a nod for Best Picture, Comedy or Musical, but Jen herself scored a nomination in the Best Actress, Comedy category.
Not to be outdone, her bestie Amy Schumer also fared well, scoring a Best Actress, Comedy nomination for Trainwreck. Melissa McCarthy, Maggie Smith and Lily Tomlin were also nominated in the category. And, as expected, Amy's oh-so hilarious flick was also nominated for Best Picture, Comedy or Musical. Guess January will bring a bit of friendly competition, huh, ladies?
Continuing the girl power theme, Brie Larson, Cate Blanchett, Rooney Mara, Saorise Ronan and Alicia Vikander also nabbed noms for Best Actress, Drama, while Ellie Goulding's "Love Me Like You Do" received a nomination for Best Original Song. Over in the TV categories, our girl Gina Rodriguez was recognized for her work on Jane the Virgin with her Best Actress, Comedy nomination, while Empire's Taraji P. Henson received a Best Actress, Drama nod. Lady Gaga was also celebrated for her uber-creepy guest-starring role on American Horror Story: Hotel, scoring a Best Actress, Mini-Series or TV Movie nom.
And the best of the TV best? Well, Empire, Game of Thrones, Mr. Robot, Narcos and Outlander are all up for Best TV Series, Drama, while Casual, Mozart in the Jungle, Orange is the New Black, Silicon Valley, Transparent and Veep will duke it out for Best TV Series, Comedy/Musical.
The awards ceremony will take place on January 10, hosted by Ricky Gervais. (Sadly, no Tina Fey and Amy Poehler this year!) And aside from the gorgeous gowns and hilarious and heartwarming speeches, Amy and Jennifer will undoubtedly provide all the incentive you need to tune in.
