So many lip oils are going viral these days. One of the latest Guerlain Kiss Kiss Bee Glow Lip Oil.
Established in 1828, Guerlain is a French cosmetics company. Though probably best known for their perfumes, the brand also has makeup and skin care lines, which includes the Kiss Kiss Bee Glow Lip Oil.
According to the product description, Guerlain's lip oil is infused with honey to hydrate and moisturize with a shiny glassy finish for lasting periods of time. It comes in six different shades, which are said to adjust to your skin's pH for a color that enhances your natural lip shade.
You'd expect a company that's been in the beauty business this long to deliver, right? To find out, Teen Vogue editors put the Guerlain Kiss Kiss Bee Glow Lip Oil to the test. We incorporated the lip product into our daily routines, carrying it in our work bags, putting on a coat before heading out on the weekend, and more. Scroll on to read our unfiltered thoughts.
Peach Glow
There’s a lot to love about Guerlain’s Kiss Kiss Bee Lip Oil — for one, it has what I view as the ultimate lip gloss texture: ultra sticky and thick, with a wider applicator that feels so satisfying to use. The staying power is real; I used it all day at a music festival and only had to reapply a couple times. After the gloss wears off, the shade I tried (peach) leaves behind a very pink stain, which I personally was into but YMMV.
Now, the downside…it leaks. Though I loved the feel of the bottle and the gold Guerlain cap, I began to notice that the more I used the product (it was in heavy rotation) the more sticky residue made its way outside of the lid. The last straw came when I dumped my makeup bag on my bed to get ready for a night out and then paused to make dinner… after I came back to clean up, the bottle had leaked on my bed. It now sits upright on my dresser where I use it suspiciously — love the vibe/shade, but I can't trust it near my possessions. - P. Claire Dodson, Associate Culture Director
Honey Glow
While I'm usually a sucker for lip oil, especially since I've pared down my makeup routine the past year, this one just didn't do it for me. The shine was gorgeous, but the benefits stopped there. I was so excited about the beautiful rosy pink tone of the Honey shade, but it showed up totally translucent on me — definitely not what I was hoping for or expecting.
The product also ran past my lip line quite a bit and I found it difficult to determine the correct amount of product to put on, which feels a bit counterintuitive given the handy swipe-and-go applicator. The bleeding also gave way to a pretty poor taste. Listen, I'm not exactly expecting a gourmet flavor (LipSmackers Dr. Pepper, anyone?), but I shouldn't be taking sips of water or removing the product entirely just because I get the tiniest residue of the product.
Finally, while stunning to look at as Guerlain products usually are, I didn't love that my fingerprints were all over the the top of the bottle. It definitely knocked down the luxury feel a few notches. All this to say, you can find a drugstore option that will serve both your face and credit cards in a better way. - Jillian Selzer, Social Media Manager
Pop Rose Glow
I’ll start by saying the finish is amazing. The gloss and tint are picturesque. If you’re looking for a glassy look with a good dose of color, this is a great fit, especially when you need something that shows up well on camera. My shade, Lavender Glow, is a really pretty purple that shows up as a cool-toned pink.
The texture is also quite nice — thick and hydrating but not sticky and overbearing. It definitely helped bring life back to my chapped lips. Like the brand describes, the hydrating element of the oil gave my lips a plump look. As someone who can't stand the tingling feeling of other plumping lip products, that was nice.
That being said, it does need to be reapplied a few times, though it's runny so you don't necessarily need that much. Just make sure it doesn't run into your mouth because it is a little bitter. Mine didn't leak, but I do find you quickly get sticky residue and fingerprints on the grip on the of the applicator. While I love Guerlain perfumes, this left a little more to be desired, especially when it retails at this price point. I think it's really great for pictures, but it wouldn't be my go-to when I'm on the go. - Donya Momenian, Associate Fashion and Beauty Editor
Poppy Glow
Starting with the best part, I love the Poppy Glow color. It’s a bright reddish orange with the right amount of pigment so it doesn’t feel like the main character in an every day look. I especially want this in the summer. I also love a sticky gloss on the lips because it feels so playful - and this lip oil is STICKY.
Which brings me to the not so great part. If you don’t close the top just right it will start to leak and because of the consistency it’s not easy to clean up. Moral of the story: it looks amazing but be careful with your bags and make sure it’s closed perfectly. - Alyssa Hardy, Contributing Editor
