If there were any doubts that Halle Bailey was the perfect fit for The Little Mermaid, look no further than her continued mermaid style.
The actor and musician looked effervescent and glamorous on Saturday night, as she strolled down the red carpet for the 2024 Screen Actors Guild (SAG) Awards at the Shrine Auditorium & Expo Hall in Los Angeles.
Bailey wore a long, custom-made mermaid-shaped gown from Dolce & Gabbana that hugged her body and opened into flowing tulle at the bottom. The burgundy dress had mesh-like detailing that gave a flattering effect. Much like Margot Robbie, who has continued to channel Barbie on red carpets and at award shows, Bailey has proven that she is still subtly portraying Ariel — whether consciously or not.
The actor paired the gown with a statement necklace and swept her braids up in a chic up-do that exposed her bare shoulders.
Halle Bailey welcomed her first child, a boy named Halo, with boyfriend DDG at the end of 2023 and has since given fans a glimpse into the pregnancy she kept private. Since Halo's birth, Bailey has shared photos with her pregnant belly, including a dreamy underwater maternity shoot that has Ariel written all over it. After playing the Disney princess in the live-action remake, we'd expect nothing less.
Bailey attended the SAG Awards alongside her castmates from the musical adaptation, The Color Purple. The film was up for two awards — including Outstanding Performance by a Cast in a Motion Picture. Bailey posted snapshots of her dress on Instagram, with the caption: “i was so honored to be nominated with my beautiful color purple cast & family!!! such a fun night.”
Before Bailey even made it into the award show, she shared a sweet moment with actor Sterling K. Brown and his wife, Ryan Michelle Bathe, who praised her for her performance in The Little Mermaid. Bailey became visibly emotional as Brown said, “We were streaming tears at the end [of The Little Mermaid] because you were beautiful.”
“Your soul is beautiful,” he continued to a teary-eyed Bailey. “Your talent was radiant… You killed it.”
