Your parents weren't just being paranoid if they checked your Halloween candy after you went trick-or-treating to make sure it was all safe. There have been several news reports of candy containing needles, pushpins, and other dangerous objects after this year's Halloween night.
The Fremont Police Department in Fremont, Indiana, posted several photos of candy containing a nail and thumbtacks, which were reportedly obtained in Coldwater, Michigan, warning parents to check their kids' candy, NBC 13 reports. The caption reads:

And as MLive reports, a Monroe, Michigan, parent warned of candy containing sewing needles from trick-or-treating in a photo posted to Facebook.

A New Jersey woman also found a needle in a Tootsie Roll that her child brought home from trick-or-treating in Cumberland County, NJ.com reports.
