We've blinked, and it's Friday again, which means it's time for New Music Friday. Let us tell you: this is a massive week for K-pop with aespa, TREASURE, ATEEZ, and more releasing projects — both singles, albums, and EPs, for our listening pleasure.
If you've been a fan of Hannah Bahng since she launched her solo music career last year, we have good news for you because her first full-length project is finally here, and it does not disappoint. (Just fair warning, it will have you in your feels.)
Below, check out all of this week's new music releases!
Hannah Bahng, The Abysmal EP
Four weeks after unveiling the first teaser for the project, Hannah Bahng is sharing her debut EP with the world, titled The Abysmal EP. Featuring seven songs written, composed, and co-produced by the artist, leading with the title track “Abysmal," a haunting piano ballad with Bahng's honeyed vocals in the forefront, and pulsating B-side “POMEGRANATE," complete with a stringing guitar solo. The Abysmal EP is Bahng's second project under her independent label Bahng Entertainment following her debut single, "perfect blues," which is also features in the EP as the closing track.
ATEEZ, GOLDEN HOUR: PART.1
Fresh off their success at Coachella, ATEEZ are releasing their 10th mini album, GOLDEN HOUR: PART.1, with “Work” as their title track — a whistly, hip-hop hustle anthem with an eclectic music video to boot. The project also features a spoken word intro narration, Latin-inspired “Blind,” and reggae-infused “Shaboom,” among others. It's summer and ATEEZ know it.
aespa, Armageddon
aespa's debut full-length album is finally here in the form of Armageddon, a 10-track that includes the instantly viral hit “Supernova” and now title track “Armageddon.” “Armageddon marks the next chapter in the aespa universe, expanding beyond the real and digital worlds and into a multiverse. aespa encounters different versions of themselves in parallel worlds, facing infinite possibilities and evolving into complete versions of themselves, all presented through this powerful and unique project,” a press release for the project states. It sure looks like an exciting one.
TREASURE, “KING KONG”
YG Entertainment's boy group TREASURE are finally back with a bang — or should we say banger. The group's new song, “KING KONG,” teases a new era for the boy group, mixing rock and EDM influences with TREASURE's unique flair. The track's main producer is AiRPLAY, known for his work with fellow YG Entertainment group WINNER, as well as IZ*ONE.
Yves feat. Lil Cherry, “LOOP”
Former LOONA member Yves (real name Ha Sooyoung) is launching her solo career with LOOP, a four-track EP helmed by a title track of the same name in collaboration with rapper Lil Cherry. A house-tinged number, “LOOP,” arrives with a music video showing the accompanying choreography.
Jay Park feat. KISS OF LIFE's Natty, “Taxi Blurr”
KISS OF LIFE have been making noise in the K-scene since their debut in 2023, and Jay Park has tapped member Natty for “Taxi Blurr," a new sultry R&B song mixing the Korean-American's crooner sensibilities with Natty's velvet voice. This could be a ‘00s song but it’s come to us in 2024.
Suho, 점선면 (1 to 3)
EXO member Suho is back with another solo album, 점선면 (1 to 3), his third release as a soloist. Prior to the full EP's release, Suho had put out the funky pre-release single “Cheese” featuring Red Velvet's Wendy, and he's now following it all up with the title track which gives the album its name.
