Heartstopper might be filmed in the U.K., but its stars — namely Kit Connor and Joe Locke — feel right at home on Broadway.
After Connor traveled to the U.S. to support Locke during his Broadway run in the revival of Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street earlier this year, Locke returned the favor, traveling to the U.S. to watch Romeo + Juliet on Broadway in support of Connor — and, thankfully for us, the commemorated their reunion with a pic.
On November 24, Joe Locke took to his Instagram stories to share a backstage picture alongside Kit Connor following a showing of Romeo + Juliet. In the pic, both Locked and Connor smile brightly for the camera. Locke has his hand on Connor's stomach, while the latter has his arm wrapped around the former's back.
“Proud mum moment. Love u bud,” Locke wrote on top of the picture, which Connor shared to his own stories. “Thanks honey,” he wrote.
Aside from the picture with Connor boasting his backstage privilege, Locke also posted a picture of the final bows showing Connor and costar Rachel Zegler greeting the audience. “The only picture I got of the bows,” he wrote. “Rachel is an angel as Juliet.”
Following a slew of teasers and previews, Romeo + Juliet, a new revival of the William Shakespeare classic directed by Sam Gold, opened on Broadway on October 24, 2024, with Connor and Zegler in the titular roles.
Since its opening in October, Romeo + Juliet has been generating major buzz from fans and critics alike. The show, which features original music by Jack Antonoff, is presented as a limited engagement produced by Seaview. Romeo + Juliet is on at the Circle in the Square Theatre, and fans can experience the action quite literally from the edge of the stage. Performances are scheduled up until February 16, 2025.
Kit Connor and Joe Locke's NYC reunion comes just under two months since the release of the highly anticipated release of Heartstopper season 3 on October 3, 2024. The show wrapped filming in December 2023 in the U.K. before Locke set sail for the U.S. to be on Broadway and followed the next chapter in Nick and Charlie's relationship as they navigated life and love apart with Charlie receiving treatment for his ED at a clinic. Now, the long distance might last for a while longer as Nick ponders where to go for uni.
Though the series ended on somewhat of a cliffhanger, it might be a while until we get Heartsopper season 4. Not only has Netflix not given the project the green light yet, but creator Alice Oseman has yet to finish the book on which the season will be based. “I really, extremely, devoutly need the Volume 6 book to come out before season 4 comes out, so people experience the end of the story from the books first. So there's a timer counting down now,” they previously stated.
