How to Layer Necklaces Missoma Mejuri

By now, you've mastered the "party on top" look for all your online classes, meetings, and actual virtual parties but do you know how to layer your necklaces like a pro?

Now that the focus on how we present ourselves to the world is from the waist up, you might want to rethink your jewelry choices. Because sometimes it's the little things, and, honestly, who wouldn't want to channel Gigi Hadid and her necklace layering game?

Layering necklaces may seem like a simple task at first but, trust us, it can also test the limits of your patience — anyone that's ever layered more than two necklaces can attest to the multiple knots that appear everywhere... and out of nowhere. To know exactly how to layer necklaces like a pro, we've reached out to Marisa Hordem, the mind behind Missoma, the jewelry label beloved by Kaia Garber, the Hadid Sisters, Dua Lipa, Kendall Jenner and more.

If you want to bid adieu to knots and follow Hordern's expert tips on how to layer necklaces effortlessly and stylishly, keep on reading!

Layer by Length

To avoid #neckmess and look like you indeed have your life put together (from the neck up at least), Hordern recommends layering your necklaces by length. "Add a choker, short necklace, and long necklace together for the quintessential layered look," she explains.

Layer by Thickness

If you like the idea of owning up to your #neckess, you might be on to something. "The latest trend we’ve seen on our #MissomaMuses are layers of bold chunky chains that are all the same length and are piled together," says Hordern. If you want the best of both worlds (cue Hannah Montana) and want something more subtle, she recommends adding a classic coin pendant necklace alongside a simple medium length chain to mix it all up, literally.

Opt for Pre-Layered Necklaces

The abovementioned tips are great, but if you went to your jewelry box and got overwhelmed by all the knots and the options, fret not! Brands like Missoma, Gorjana, and Baublebar have done the hard work for you with pre-layered options. "[Missoma's] necklace layering sets are pre-stacked and cost less when bought as a set, so you’re not paying individual prices," Hordern tells Teen Vogue. The best part? Hordern and the whole Missoma team won't mind it if you take the layering credit.

Necklace Detanglers are Your New BFFs

Do you want to avoid tangles altogether? Hordem speaks highly of necklace detanglers you can easily purchase on Etsy or Amazon. You simply attach your individual necklaces to this clasp and bid farrewell to knots and tangles. This inexpensive tool is a gamechanger and will allow you to take off (and put on) all your layers in one go.
