In the works since 2024, Not Suitable for Work is created and executive-produced by Mindy Kaling in tandem with showrunner Charlie Grandy, whose credits also include The Sex Lives of College Girls, The Mindy Project, The Office, and more. The show follows a group of twenty-somethings in New York City as they try to survive work, love, and everything in between.

What is Hulu's Not Suitable for Work about?
Not Suitable for Work follows the story of a group of five twenty-something friends living in Manhattan who are all striving to make it big at work. Though our titular group is career-obsessed, they also strive for personal happiness and, of course, love in their spare time. And where in Manhattan is all of this happening? In Murray Hill, which served as the working title of the show and is, according to Hulu, “Manhattan's most glamorous neighborhood.”
When does Hulu's Not Suitable for Work come out?
Not Suitable for Work premieres on June 2 with three episodes on Hulu and Hulu on Disney+ in the US and on Disney+ internationally. After the initial premiere, two episodes will drop weekly. Season one of the show reportedly features a total of eight 30-minute episodes.
Who is in the cast of Hulu's Not Suitable for Work?
The core five of Not Suitable for Work features Ella Hunt, Avantika, Will Angus, Jack Martin, and Nicholas Duvernay. Insecure alum Jay Ellis rounds off the main cast. Here's a little more about the actors and what we know about their characters:
28-year-old English actor Ella Hunt portrays AJ Pascarelli in the show. In the show, AJ starts her professional career at a prestigious NY investment bank called Fisher Stassen as a “charming but intense first-year analyst." Hunt is best known for her roles in Saturday Night and Dickinson, where she appeared alongside Hailee Steinfeld.
21-year-old Avantika brings to life AJ's roommate and best friend, Abby, who is also our resident fashion girlie, as the assistant to a “demanding” celebrity stylist played by Constance Wu. Abby is described as “fashion-obsessed” and “savvy.” You might recognize Avantika from multiple projects, including Pretty Lethal, Mean Girls, Spin, and more.
27-year-old newcomer Will Angus plays Davis Beau Bradley Barrett III. His character is described as “a high-energy finance bro, who underneath his fratty exterior, just wants to love and be loved.” Davis appears to be one of AJ's co-workers and, judging by the trailer, he also seems to develop a pretty immediate crush on her. Angus is best known for his comedy on the online sketch show Almost Friday TV.
27-year-old Jack Martin will portray Josh Teitelbaum, the nepo baby of the bunch, trying to make it in the entertainment industry. It looks like Josh, reluctantly, with a bit of help from his father, will start working on The Wes Dryden Show, a prestigious investigative journalism program, but of course, he will struggle to be taken seriously. Josh is described as “a smart, idealistic, and occasionally sanctimonious New Yorker." You might have recently seen Martin in Pizza Movie alongside the likes of Gaten Matarazzo, Caleb Hearon, and Daniel Radcliffe. Since 2023, Martin has been in a relationship with Lili Reinhart, so you might have seen pictures of the two together online.
Rounding out the trio of male housemates is 26-year-old Nicholas Duvernay as Kel Washington, a med school student who is, well, terrified of seemingly everything that med school entails. Kel is described as “a charming, slightly anxious medical student struggling to ace his exams while plotting his big break as an actor.” Aside from his professional ambitions, it also seems like he will develop a bit of a thing for Abby. You might recognize Nicholas Duvernay from The White Lotus season three, where he portrayed Zion Lindsey, the son of Natasha Rothwell's Belinda, or from Bel-Air, where he played Drew.
Last but not least, the last member of the core cast is 44-year-old Jay Ellis, who plays Bill Gibson, AJ's attractive boss at Fisher Stassen, whom she may or may not have a crush on. Ellis is best known for his role as Martin "Lawrence" Walker in Insecure. He has also appeared in Running Point, All Her Fault, and many more projects.
Recurring guest stars include Victor Garber as host Wes Dryden; Greg Germann as Josh's father, David Teitelbaum, who produces The Wes Dryden Show and is also the chairman of a major media conglomerate; Judy Gold as Paula, also a producer on the show; Stella Everett as Josh’s social worker girlfriend Vivian; Ego Nwodim as Kate Woodson, the Assistant Head of School at an exclusive, all-girls private school in Manhattan; Harry Richardson as movie star hearttrob Austin Blanchett; Constance Wu as celebrity stylist Vanessa Hsu; Laura Bell Bundy as AJ’s mom, Amy Pascarelli; May Hong as Jocelyn, an associate at Fisher Stassen; Bhavesh Patel as Dileep, the VP of Fisher Stassen; Emilia Suárez as Elena, an intern at The Wes Dryden Show; and Michael Benjamin Washington as Antoine, a landlord and aspiring dancer.
