Hunter Schafer is hard at work promoting her new movie Cuckoo, but she's also taking time to reflect on Euphoria, most recently opening up about her initial reaction thinking about her Christian parents watching the many NSFW scenes in the hit HBO show.
During her interview on the Call Her Daddy podcast, where she also discussed her breakup with fellow Euphoria actor Dominic Fike, Schafer admitted to feeling conflicted about the explicit scenes on the show in fear of what her parents would think.
In case you need a refresher, Schafer, who plays the fan-favorite Jules on the show, begins her Euphoria journey right off the bat having sex with Cal Jacobs (Eric Dane).
"When I had to tell my parents, 'In the first episode, I'm having anal sex with a 45-year-old," Schefer recalled in the podcast, "my first thought is, 'OK, they have to tell their congregation that their kid's going to be on TV, and then their congregation, who are just little old nice white Christian people from the south, are going to watch this TV show and see me getting f*cked.'"
Despite noting her parents are "on the chiller side of Christianity," Schafer admitted she felt bad for having to break the news to them. "There's this whole pastor's daughter trope. And it gets kind of tough," she said. "I still do feel bad because that's something they still have to deal with."
Schafer's Euphoria costar Sydney Sweeney has also opened up about filming nude scenes for the show more than a handful of times in the past, and she's also touched upon how awkward it can be when family members are involved.
Back in 2022, Sweeney was asked about her family's reaction to the nudity of Euphoria and revealed she actually forgot to warn her grandparents before hosting a group watch.
Though it got awk, the gathering ended with Sweeney's grandma praising her for having "the best t*ts in Hollywood." Her dad, however, did not react as well. "My dad is a little scarred because, for whatever reason, I forgot to tell him what Euphoria was about. And then the first season came out. I think he made it to the point where I was slammed down on the bed, and he has refused to turn it back on since," Sweeney admitted.
Maybe for season 3 — if it ever comes out — both Sweeney and Schafer should take a page from Bridgerton star Nicola Coughlan and request a PG version to show the fam — though we are not sure how long that cut would be!
